UTexGrad
Figured this should be it's own topic rather than hijacking the CPU thread..... I'm running Vista with the Security settings diabled. I have a 2.8 ghz processer, 2 gig ram and an ATI 1900 XTX. The demo will not even start for me. I click the program icon and the spinner starts up then goes away and nothing happens. I've tried rebooting but still no luck. Anyone have any ideas as to why it won't even start? Thanks, Robert
Madmatt
Make sure you run as Admin, and update all video, sound and DirectX drivers. As I said before, Vista is really only "unofficially" supported. It should work, but Vista is still rather unstable with the drivers out for it. Madmatt
UTexGrad
I have all of the latest drivers so I don't think that is the issue. So you are saying I need to turn the security stuff back on? If that's the case I'm going to be really annoyed with freaking Vista. I HATE having the security settings on.
Madmatt
I have an idea, download and run this file (it installs a video codec). See if this makes a difference and allows the demo to run. I had thought that it wasn't needed, but maybe for some people it is. http://www.battlefront.com/products/tow/codec/wmv9VCMsetup.exe Madmatt
UTexGrad
Well heck, that didn't work. I guess I'm getting closer and closer to turning security back on. Queue the McIntosh commercial....
Cameroon
Hey UTex, try running the Theater of War Config app first. For some reason the demo didn't seem to load for me at first (WinXP here), but after I ran the config app the demo launched fine.
UTexGrad
Yup, that did the trick for me, thanks. The default monitor res was way too high for my flat panel so it was bombing out. Thanks for the help, everyone! Time to *cough cough* call in sick to work....
Madmatt
Ugh, I know why this is happening. Damn...Okay looks like I need to send a *fixed* demo out to the mirrors. For some reason the demo that went out has its "video" preferences already set and they shouldn't have been. This was my fault, I will get it fixed ASAP!. The simple fix is to just run the Configuration Utility and set your resolution and settings to how you want. Sorry about that, I should have noticed that!
