Kubelwagen
I'm wondering if the game will be limited to simulating just the current conflicts and not hypothetical conflicts or conflicts from 20+ years ago?
gunnergoz
From BFC's announcement in a separate thread: "Well, at long last it is time to announce the setting for the first two releases of the CMx2 game engine. Obviously there has been a lot of speculation about what they would be, and most of you guessed correctly, though many guessed the order incorrectly. The two releases are, in order: 1. Near future modern warfare 2. WWII western Europe 1944/45" So, I'd say there's a very high likelihood of seeing WW2 and possibly even postwar Russia in there (think Afghanistan or Chechnya for the latter.)
Ivan Drago
Modern day Chechnia and/or 1980's Afghanistan should technically be possible as a 'total conversion' (of unit skins/voices) using the Red vs. Red play option.
Dillweed
the engine will be able to more or less do anything. That is one of the reasons why they are doing modern first. Since modern is by definition the most advanced, simulating past conflicts only requires to scale the engine down.
