"push to talk" on a mac

Hey! i can't seem to get the "p" push to talk to work on my g4 (aluminum) laptop.

My pal is having the same problem with his macbook pro.

We can hear transmissions, and when we push the "p" key the "tranmission" box pops up (to indicate that the send is working i guess) but no-one on team hears us nor sees "transmission from" pop up.

I have already checked the audio input and it IS set to the built-in mic.

(I also tried a headset in the mic-in jack which also didnt work).

anyone out there have any ideas?

anyone with an apple laptop get the "p" to talk to work?

Well I would think the built in would work but Ichat may have something to do with that. As far as a head set mic macs no longer provide power through the mic port. so either you need to use a self powerd mike or a usb head set. I'm trying to locate a usb headset for my g4 tower. Haven't found one at the price I like yet.

yeah i just figured all that out via the apple forums, but i can't figure out why the built-in mic's not working.

Could be ichat i guess, i'll make sure it's not running next time.

I guess I'll pickup a usb headset.

ok managed to get it sorted (i think)

it was due to APE (application enhancement, a third-party app that gets installed in system preferences for some shareware apps) screwing with the audio.

all better now move along

I'm flummoxed.

anyone get it to work on a mac?

if so can you tell me what model/ operating system etc?
