Japanese Roster for Singapore Tournament

Sorry boss, bad karma against Zonso smile.gif

First turn was a 1/2 convoy, so I sent my kates with the weakest oscar escort, since even the weakest hurri I element was enough to eliminate a kate and deprive me of 2 points. Ron didnt reply, so I had my 2 points.

The first air superiority was a total disaster. I had put my best oscars and the zeroes, against his best two elements. My zero wingie was killed immediately by an IMS2:D. I managed to get both Hurri IIs to 1 points before smoking, but a serie of disastrous bad draws ended up in all my 4 planes downed with only a Hurri I smoked by Sakai just before he went down. 4 points for the Brits and my 2 best elements rendered useless. What a nightmare!

Turn 2 had a 1/4 bombing target. Since the previous disastrous turn had most of my good pilots dog tired, I gambled sending my bettys escorted by the puny nates. Ron sent his best elements against them. Unfortunately one pair of Hurri Is started co-alt with the bombers, at low alt. The Hurry IIs were only a level above. Worst possible altitude for bombers, despites a 5 turns game.

Nates did a good job of keeping the Hurri IIs busy for 2 turns before getting shot down, but this was not enough to prevent one of my bettys to go down. It ended in a draw, which was more or less the logical result given the circumstances.

I sent the weakest oscar pair to air superiority, and luckily Ron did not answer. A measley 2 points won, but at an acceptable cost.

Last turn, the bloody 3/5 battleship appeared. The tired bettys still had more chances of doing the job than the fresh kates. I needed a 2 planes element to fend off the attackers, so I selected my best pair of oscars, hoping to delay the interceptors as much as possible.

With a living zero wingman I would have tried to save the bettys and aim for the 5 points, leaving the 4 air superiority to the Brits, but as it stood I was bound to fight for the air supremacy and pray for a miracle over Singapore.

I put the weakest oscars and the surviving zero on air superiority, hoping for the best. As it turned out I had an insolent luck, managing to kill both Hurri IIs at the cost of a single oscar. 2 more points for the rising sun.

So the outcome was decided in the last game. My exhausted wingman went down immediately, and the leader managed only to distract the strongest element for 2 turns. Here again the bettys were attacked immediately, and the low altitude gave the Brits ample redraws.

The previously downed betty smoked and went down after a couple of turns. At the end of turn 4 the remaining betty had still 3+4 structure left. Too bad the unengaged Hurri I drew another IMS2:D that went through. 6 points for the Brits, end of the story.

As it turns out I'm not especially ashamed of the result. Ron and I won each 3 games, and luck changed side a couple of times.

Better luck next time...

I removed the emails. I would say that listing the match-ups is great, but keep all the email addresses contained to private emails between participating players.

Which is why the emails that all players received states that email addresses should be treated confidential, and why only the team leaders get the emails to be handed out individually.

If people prefer and agree to, we could make them visible to all tournament participants (and *only* to the tournament participants) on the DIF-website (in the appropriate Round# page), but ALL participating players have to agree to that.

If the team leaders want to initiate a poll within their own ranks and then email me the results, I'm all open for this.

Sorry oh esteemed leader and glorious comrades of the japanese host, i have to report mixed news:

In my match against JabbaVHutt i only managed to achieve a (costly)draw. The beginning was extremely promising, i got a 1/3 shipping target in Singapore and managed to shoot down&kill the Hurricane 2 leader. He shot down a Kate, so that mission´s result was a draw . The patrol target was no problem, i won it easily in all three rounds. But in both turn 2 AND 3 i got Force Z (the 3/5 naval target) in Singapore. In turn 2 i managed a draw, but lost a Betty (pilot killed), so i had to send the Kates in turn 3. I lost that mission in turn 3 (both Kates and both Oscars shot down...), as i had dreaded. To gain a draw both Kates would have needed to remain alive, an unlikely thing against 2 Hurri 1s and 1 Hurri 2.

So the best i could do was a draw with 6 VPts for both sides.

At least this way no side makes any gains...and we are currently ahead a few VPts.

Emperor,

I regret to report a 6-8 loss.

We had the Brits on the ropes, and were up 6-0 after the first two turns (won the two air superiority missions and sank a freighter with the Kates on T2). The only hitch was that we'd lost Sakai's wingman on T1 escorting the Bettys over Singapore.

T3 went their way. Somehow we managed to lose on a four vs two dogfight over Malaysia on turn 3, even after killing one of the two Hurricanes with the first shot. 1 plane lost to 1 plane lost, but he won on damage. That made it 6-4. The final battle over Singapore was going to decide it, which pitted a rested Sakai by himself escorting two mostly rested Bettys against a full flight of Hurr 1 and Hurr 2. Sakai dodged and weaved, but their wingmen performed like aces, and they got the last betty with the last shot on the last turn, for 4 points and the win.

A very exciting match, and honor and glory to my worthy opponent. I go now to join my ancestors!

Oh great and divine emperor, glorious leader of the japanese team, fellow pilots:

I have not quite managed to achieve a full success against my british opponent toorey, the game ended in a draw. In a shrewd move my honourable opponent used his hurri 2s mainly in malaya, racking up two victories there (two times 4 VPts). I only managed two win two bombing missions (6 VPts) and one dogfight (2 VPts, so the end result was 8 VPts all. It was great fun, even if i failed to lessen the british team´s advantage in VPts.

I humbly apologize for my failure, my honorable teammates. Gtbunny has defeat our forces 6-12. It was all tied up at 4-4 heading to to turn 3 but the nigh invulnerable 4/7 appeared and doomed my efforts. Even then it was a narrow loss heading to the very last cards.

My apologies to you, Skuderian-san, my comrades in arms, and the Chrysanthemum throne, but I have lost to John1440 4 to 6.

Excellent draws in the first sweep mission (4 Imperial fighters vs. 2 british) resulted in a devastating loss, which was compounded by two bomber pilots killed in action in the first two turns. Though I fought valiantly against the rapidly tiring British forces, I did not have enough bomb points available the last turn to eliminate the target and secure the victory.

OK, lost again, this time against Zonso.

Must have drawn 5 ace pilots with his wingmen and played 4 IMS-Destroyed in combination or something like that. No comment.

I might as well play casino rather than DiF. Anybody want to replace me for the next round? I've had enough.
