When entering a game for the first time, and it reads "original campaign" could not be found proceed anyway?

What is that telling me? I am under the impression that the game has been edited from the original campaign?

And when playing A game that is in Germen (against a german version of the game) is this always going to be the case?

This message means:

- either your opponent loaded a changed scenario that you don´t have on your computer

- or you play against someone with a different language version (like german - vice versa your opponent gets the same message)

E.g. Fall Weiss is named in german Fall Weiß - therefore it doesn´t find that campaign and gives you this message.

Solution to avoid this message between different language versions is for your opponent to rename his "Fall Weiß" campaign into "Fall Weiss" (best to just copy it and rename the copy..) or probably better: you can do the same vice versa (= copy your "Fall Weiss" campaign and name the copy "Fall Weiß")

Thanks Terif, SO it would mean that My American friend is trying to load a modified game! The dirty Bastage!

If you both have the same language version and you didn´t delete your original campaign on your computer, then yes - your opponent is using an altered scenario.
