FT usage in real life

Recommended Posts

Don't know if this has been discussed before but..

One thing has always been unclear to me. How do you use in real life FTs against in example tanks, against infantry their use is obvious. Just firing at them IMO would have no effect. Would you have to assault the tank and try to fire into some of the tanks weak points or what? Just curious because in most games they appear to be quite effective against anything but just don't seem to see how they're used in real life..

Basically the fire enters every open port and grate. Tanks are covered with them especially around the engine. The engine, which is covered in grease and oil, then catches fire from that point on the fate is sealed.

Now tanks have vent ports in the crew compartment. Some even have open view ports. Just stick the flamethrower into that port and fill the crewc compartment with liquid fire. I once read an account of the Sovs destroying German Elephants in this way. Nasty really.

... just another reason to be extremely careful when utilizing armor in built up terrain/MOUT. Recklessly rumbling around any tank and into the waiting arms of an Engineer unit supported by a FT team is a garaunteed way to lose the tank... esp. if they're Germans with those damned Panzerfausts. Then there's the explosive charges...
