Help! CM Won't Install!!

Recommended Posts

Please Help. I recently upgraded (finally) from W95 to W98SE and tried to reinstall CM. About 1/4 of the way through the installation, I get a message which asks me to insert Disk 2 (WTF!!) into my CD-Rom drive in order to install Combat mission.exe Of course, I don't have a second disk, so the installation has to abort.

What is going on here? I noticed that the copying of files from my CD to the HD was painfully slow. When I look at Device Properties, I see that my Secondary IDE controller has an exclamation mark, yet, when I try to install new drivers, it tells me the device is already using the latest driver.

Can anyone help? I am about to tear my hair out!

Go into your Windows>Temp folder and delete all the files and folders you see. Then rereun the setup file.

If that doesnt work then here are two other procedures that may work for you:

Get some rubbing alcohol and dilute it with water (about a capful total) Dip a Q-tip into the solution and then gently rub the soaked Q-tip across the shiny surface of the CD. Be sure to work any area that show smudges or scratches. Let the CD airdry. Re-insert the CD and And try to re-install. If setup still halts part way through then you can perfrom a manual install of the game.

To do that, please follow the direction below:

Create a directory somewhere on your computer called "CMBO". Now open

Windows Explorer and browse to the Combat Mission CD. Copy the Wav, BMP and

Scenarios folders into your new CMBO folder. Be sure that you copy the

folder AND files inside of them! Now copy the Combat Mission.exe file from

the CD to your new CMBO folder.

Now launch the game from your harddrive. When you double-click the Combat

Mission.exe the first time I want you to then press and hold your SHIFT key.

That will toggle the intro movie off. You will still need to have the CD in

the drive to play (this is done for copy protection reasons) but all the

files will be on your computer and it should be okay.
