Canuck
I downloaded and installed ICQ 2002a so that i could get rid of the ads, but now I've found that this version of ICQ takes up a space on your taskbar when you have it open!! I've looked and simply cannot find an option that lets me turn that off. Does anyone know if i can?
GJK
Switch to Trillian (works with ICQ and others). I did a while back and it's so much better than the ICQ interface. No more "uh oh" sound either (yes, that's easy enough to disable, but still...)
Canuck
I LIKE the uh oh sound Otherwise I would never know if someone had sent me a message. Anyways I upgraded to 2003b and then found a patch that eliminates the ads. Here's the link in case there are other ICQ ad haters out there You must have 2003b installed for it to work. http://www.overclockinghq.com/articles/removeicqads.php
GJK
After 4 years (I have a low-mid 6-digit ICQ #), the "uh-oh" was getting old. Really, try Trillian. I was skeptical at first after using the ICQ interface for so long, but now am so glad that I did. Another nice feature - you don't have to click "Send" to send the message, just press enter when you're done typing. Oh, and Trillian does have it's own sounds for events, including incomming messages, and if you must, you can use the "uh-oh" from ICQ in your own custom theme.
