Omi
Okay, it's not really "hull down" if there's no hull, but do gun and infantry get extra protection when placed behind hill tops or elevation?
Voodoochile
Interesting screenshot. Is there a "Simpsons" MOD for CM out there that I don't know about?
Omi
It's a secret German weapon, the 75mm Ems44 "Eat My Shorts" Antitank gun.
YankeeDog
There is no 'hull down' status for non-AFV units in CM as such, but Infantry and Heavy Weapons do benefit from "Fighting Crest" deployment, at least against DF HE weapons. Basically, when DF HE tries to target a unit on the fighting crest (which is basically the same thing as 'Hull Down'), a significant amount of the HE fired at the unit flies long, landing far downrange where it has absolutely no effect. Another portion falls significantly short, having very little, if any, supressive effect. IOW, with fighting crest deployment, it requires a much more accurate shot to have any effect on a unit with HE. The same does not apply to small arms fire. As far as I can tell, the current model does not calculate crest effects in regards to small arms firepower. This is why in some cases, such as a tank with a small (sub-50mm) main gun firing on an AT gun, its better to use the coax MG rather than the main gun - the main gun will at least help supress the AT gun (though it's unlikely to completely knock it out), but weak HE fire is really unlikely to affect an AT gun if a high proportion of the shells are flying long. This isn't necessarily *completely* unrealistic. A burst from an MG is probably more likely to get at least a couple of rounds close enough to a fighting crest deployed gun to make the crew a little jittery than a single HE shell flying 10ft. over their head, but the fact that fighting crest confers *no* protection from small arms fire is certainly unrealistic. Cheers, YD
Michael Emrys
To try to answer the question, no apparently not, although they do derive some protection from being behind walls and hedges as well as being dug in. Michael
