Hans
Grogs What would the minimum length need to be for a 1930's made Euorpean airfield suitable for single engine fighters? This would be the single strip not the classic 'X' Hans
MikeT
I would say about 2000 feet. MikeT
Lucho
800 - 1000m (I was flying gliders and on a grass strip of this lenght a B25 was able to land during a fly in).
Hans
Okay between 650-1000 meters then? going once twice? Do we have a third bid?
Michael Emrys
Keep in mind too that during that period it was often the case that landing grounds were not paved runways, but simply large open grassy areas. These were adequate for all but the heaviest planes at that time. Unless carefully sited and drained however, they could be rendered unusable in rainy weather.
