CMBB Freezing Issue

Recommended Posts

I've owned CMBB for a couple of weeks now, and am totally addicted to the game. Unfortunately, I've been plagued by freezing problems that occur often enough to make me want to pull my hair out. I've emailed support, and MadMatt suggested I update my VIA 4-in-1 drivers, which I have (both to the latest 4.43 and to 4.35 which are recommended for Win98SE). I've gone through the recommended procedure of updating my NVIDIA drivers (set to VGA, remove old drivers, install Direct X 8.1b, install new drivers), and installing the newest SB Audigy drivers. Nothing seems to work, it will freeze up on me in quick battles, the sound loops, and a reset needs to occur in order to try again. I hope someone has some advice, I am running out of drivers to tweak.

System Specs:

Windows 98SE

Athlon 700Mhz (not overclocked)

Asus K7V (1007 Bios)

386 MB RAM

VisionTek Geforce3 64MB (29.42 drivers currently,

also tried more recent versions)

SB Audigy (w/ latest drivers)

Thanks in Advance

same problem for me with 98se when I upgraded my video card. Tried all sorts of driver combos/fresh 98se installs etc, with my new GF4200i card, but I kept getting lockups/sound loops.

As an experiment I ghosted back on a copy of XP home, installed the latest nvidia drivers, and I haven't had a single lockup since.

Probably means that nvidia have been putting more time into the xp drivers than the 98 drivers. Personally, as long as it works...
