Finnish weapons and formations

Btw, from above site about Finnish engineers:

During Interim Peace (1940 - 1941) Finnish Engineer Corps sent their representative to study methods, which German "sturmpioniere" were using. These studies and Finnish experiences from Winter War lead to introduction of new training doctrine: "Taistelupioneerikoulutus" (Combat engineer training), which was spread to Finnish Engineer units during Continuation War. The combat engineer training introduced more aggressive frontline combatant role for Engineers, making its best to transform them as specialists in attacking fortifications and armoured vehicles with equipment such as satchel charges, bangalores and pole charges. At September of 1943 TO&E of Engineer Battalion went through a change: The non-combatant Search Light Platoon was replaced with Jaeger Engineer Battalion armed with flame-throwers. At the same time the newly introduced Jaeger Engineer Platoons meant that the "unofficial and outside-TO&E" Flame-thrower Platoons disappeared.
I remember a discussion here, where BFC claimed that because Finnish engineers were not used in combat role in the Finnish Army, they were not included in the game in the first place... ;)

Having dug up that same information - about the training of combat engineers - from the original sources during the research on Finnish TO&E, and having relayed it over to BFC, I can tell you that

1. BFC knew that Finns had started to adopt a new doctrine

2. the decision to include combat engineers as small teams and not larger formations was deliberate.

You may want to see the link in my signature for additional information.

While I appreciate your work for BFC, may I point out that if your sources were the bibliography you present in your document...those are not "original" (or primary) sources, but only secondary. Having said that those books include all the necessary information.

The second reason presented for not including Finnish engineers/pioneers was that players bought too much engineers in QBs..lol. Fortunately a compromise was made and all Finnish infantry squads carry demos.

Thanks, Keke. I found far more information on this website than I have been able to gather by playing you. For some reason my Soviets don't seem to be able to identify Finns very clearly. I'm always shocked to get anything more detailed than "infantry squad?" or "crew?". :D:D
