I wanted to recommend a very nice read by Rick Atkinson, called "An Army At Dawn: The War in North Africa 1942-43". It covers the entire American part in the North African campaign, with no holds barred re: Patton, Ike, and of course the french. Mike edit: There are many small unit actions described in this book that will be very helpful for designing your own missions.
