Runyan99
It's been mentioned before on this forum, but I'd like to recommend again this book to those interested in the Eastern Front. It's a story about the sieges of Cholm and Velikiye Luki. The book isn't perfect, in my opinion, as a piece of literature, but it is a book I would have been proud to write myself, if I could. The book overall is sometimes exhausting to read. It's a journey of exhaustion, as seen through the eyes of the characters. The book does a very good job of exploring the depths of emotions the Landsers must have felt. The random thoughts that must go through a man's mind, the endless hours of boredom, the bottomless depths of sickness, of delerium, of hopeless resignation, and of biting cold. Suffering hour by hour and day by day. Suffering so deep and profound that actual combat with the enemy sometimes comes as a relief to the hunger and the cold. Check it out.
