Soviet border guards

1/ How would you represent 1941 Soviet border guards detachments in CMBB? What type of units?

2/ Were they part of the NKVD?

in cmbb i would represent them as just "regular" infantry with some "veterans" thrown in.

yes, parts of them were nkvd. the official "border guards" were, soldiers at checkpoints, customs, etc. as far as for troops stationed at the border i think most were regular army.

I was thinking maybe the border guards had a particular weapon mix and were only armed with rifles and had no lmg.

i dont know but i dont imagine that the guards were really a fighting force, more like a an armed presense at checkpoints and such as i've said....and they probably did patrols and things like that.

Soviet border troops were NKVD and used standard organisation and armament, alas lacked all heavy weapons (though they did have machineguns). In the eve of invasion, these troops were still ordered to not open fire against the Germans, and many did not even return fire.

Some of these units, ignoring orders, managed to put up effective resistance nonetheless, at least for a few hours. Perhaps because their families were settled near their bases, i.e. close to the border.
