AI pack it in when attack fails......

Recommended Posts

Well it seems that once the AI's assault has been ground down to a few stragglers huddleing in wet ditches, the logical thing is just to withdraw.

Actually they don't even huddle in ditches like sensible people, instead they decide that since the battalion has been 70% erradicated by a still quite viable defense, the logical thing is to see how the other 30% does trying to crack it.

"If we can get our remaining 2' mortars over all those bodies and past that barbed wire, we'll have em!". I'm suprised they don't fling the vehicle crews at us.

But once these J-Wayne-esque heroics have passed the threshold, they go from stoically chargeing into certain death to surrendering when they don't have to. Wheres the middle ground?

If the defending enemy is strategically so on their heals as to not be able to launch a counter attack, why surrender? Some of the POWs are often 600+ meters from my troops too. You'd really have to go out of your way to get captured at that point really.......

In real life there were plenty of Germans who marched a lot farther than that just for the opportunity to surrender to the western allies! But as far as what your talking about I think it is a case of the enemy's global moral getting so low that it is forced to surrender the remaining units.

Quite true, alas. I recently was the recipient of a "valiant" last-ditch AI attempt to overrun my positions, using--get this--an arty spotter, a couple mortar and MG teams, a couple HQ units, and two or three squads--all tiptoeing blithely through the tulips as they were mowed down.

Artificial unintelligence in this case :(

Oakie doakie, sounds about right folks. Sounds like good news on CM2, wich is basically where I'd like to see some action on this issue unless a later patch is planned.

Yeah that is certainley what it is, I'd just suggest that an attacking force should retreat rather than surrender, unless there is something written into the scenario (QB's should default to retreat).

Surrender would be Christmas in 44'-45' on the west. If you could shake the Polezei death squads and the partisans, you'll be loveing the warm embrace a cushy anglo prison camp.

I'd probably scrap the idea on the ost-end of things though, lessun' I was pretty sure I could make a real convinceing discertation on the merits of communal socialism to an audience that wanted to bayonet me in the gullet. Would have to be pretty good I reckon.

You know I also noticed that the word 'should' is quite missing from my heading on this thread.

its supposed to read 'AI SHOULD pack it in when attack fails'. Looks rather disfunctional without 'should' I admit ;)

Did you try offering a cease fire?
