KiwiJoe Posted June 5, 2001 Share Posted June 5, 2001 Ive read quite a bit lately about gun postions and standard WW2 tactics reguarding them. It seems that most gun crews would postion thier gun in a nice covered postion with good LOS to likely enemy tank aproaches. They would also check around for covered postions back from the gun in case they came under heavy fire. This normally meant artillery/mortar attack. Thus they would fall back to this secondary position, rifles in tow, and wait out the incoming fire. Once the fire had stopped they would check for advancing enemy units and then re-man the gun if it was undamaged. All sounds pretty logical to me. You'd have to be pretty insane to stay by the gun in the middle of an artillery attack. And why wouldnt you re-man the gun if the crew and gun was ok and you were no longer under fire?
