Phoenix
Oddly enough I just saw this same vehicle in an issue of Scale Modeler today. It was a mine clearer. Dunno if it ever was used.
Maximus
That vehicle is a Mine Exploder T10. Early in 1944, the National Defense Research Council suggested a remote controlled mine exploder device consisting of three roller units, articulated in tricycle layout and controlled by a following tank. This was developed into a self-propelled unit, consisting of the roller units as first envisioned, but powered and driven from a modified M4 hull/turret mounted above the articulated tricycle unit. Designated T10, it was tested at APG, but proved to be unwieldy and the project was cancelled in the fall of 1944. Source: British and American Tanks of World War Two, Chamberlain & Ellis.
