Bruce70
I recently heard that an Aus/NZ version of TacOps was developed for the armed forces of those countries. Since I may be able to obtain a copy through my unit, can you tell me what differences (compatibility?) there are between that and the commercially available TacOps4. An while I'm here, can anyone recommend a Company or Platoon level simulation similar (in depth and concept) to TacOps.
JRapkins
TacOps ANZAC is still being developed - the aussie Army still hasn't submitted which units it wants included thus far I don't think. TacOps 4 will be incompatible with any military versions when they come out, and the civvie version always will be. At the moment there's no ASLAVs, Bushmasters, SFMG sections, RBS-70s, Aussie Tiger etc etc - basically the army in 1991. But when v5 comes out all the additions that the Army tells MajorH to include will be passed on to the civilian game. (except for "sensitive" info - cos everything is "sensitive" in Oz ) I use the Canadian Coyote as an ASLAV-25, and the Bison as a normal ASLAV-PC. No Unimogs yet either edit: as for another game at a similar scale and scope, try Armoured Task Force, sequel to Brigade Combat Team by Cpt. Pat Proctor - more of a conventional mech forces sim, and as such doesn't model Aussie style of warfare that well. But it does have more terrain levels [ August 20, 2003, 12:50 AM: Message edited by: JRapkins ]
MajorH TacOps Developer
>Since I may be able to obtain a copy through my unit, Send me a private email stating your Australian military affiliation and I will give you an email address for the Australian officer who handles distribution. >can you tell me what differences >(compatibility?) there are between that and >the commercially available TacOps4. Currently ... military and retail editions which have identical version strings (three numbers plus two letters) can play each other and can load each other's saved game files. The program will tell you if you try to load an incompatible saved game file. This may change in the future. Except for some cosmetic items, the only difference between the current military versions and the retail version is that the retail version is limited to not more than 20 players in a network game. Military versions allow more network players. This may change in the future. >TacOps ANZAC is still being developed Actually TacOps ANZAC v4 was delivered several months ago and is being distributed within the AU and NZ military - if one knows who to ask. It is TacOps ANZAC v5 that is still under development. [ August 20, 2003, 02:02 AM: Message edited by: MajorH ]
