Unfortunately , no one thought they could do it and did not have reserves in place to follow up. Many historians believe that had this happened the war would have been over much earlier. Search the web, there is tons of stuff on it. Vimy ridge is the spelling btw ------------------ What you see depends mainly upon what you look for. Walter Posted September 29, 2000 Share Posted September 29, 2000 There is a famous book on the battle written by Pierre Burton (yes, he of 'Front Page Challenge' fame teehee Canadian Joke), simply called 'Vimy'. The web will have oodles of information on it as well. There is a very large and impressive monument to the Canadians who won the battle in Vimy, France, made with stone from Croatia. In many ways, it was this battle which led to the Statute of Westminster and the severing of Canadian and British foreign policy and is something that is not taught nearly well enough in Canadian schools.
