1CavMan
Has anyone else noticed that M15 Half tracks with a 37mm Automatic Gun and two .50 Caliber machine guns and the M16 Half tracks with quad .50 caliber machine guns are missing from CM. I noticed this while reading historical records of the Third Armored Division which refers to these as part of the TOE for Combat Commands in this division. The earliest reference I can find is in the vicinity of Hotton around December 1944. I am no expert but these do sound like they were integral parts of fighting units in and around the Battle of the Bulge after Overlord. Any comments? Mannheim Tanker
Now that you mention it, they do appear to be missing. At what level does your reference say they were attached to various units? If these vehicles were usually attached at the level of brigade and higher, that would explain their absence. Teamski
Yeah, but there were over 1000 produced during the war. The Ostwind (about 85 built) should of been axed to allow the M-16 in the game..... -Ski The game still rocks ------------------ "The Lieutenant brought his map out and the old woman pointed to the coastal town of Ravenoville........" 1CavMan
One reference I have been using is an eyewitness account written by a 3AD ordinance officer at the battalion/brigade level depending on which major command had control over the assets. He refers to CCB and CCR which seem to be regimental combat teams but he was involved in company level maintenance and recovery. Each task force included several M16 and M15 Half Tracks. These were small probing forces for the 3AD which at the time of this account were separated into 3 columns establishing a screen between the 82nd Airborne on the East and Hotton on the West, where the 84th Infantry was moving into position. I also agree that CM still rocks but I do think that these were assets that did add to the firepower of small units and should have been included.
