It was the same weapon ,correct? In real life how much ammo would have been carried by the MG team as opposed to the ammo for the squad MG. I see the firepower rating for the 2 is quite different. Having nothing to do with this one of you super tankers answer me this. On the M1's main gun what are the dimensions of the actual penetrator rod and the weight of it for the APDSFS round. Compassion Posted February 24, 2000 Share Posted February 24, 2000 The diff between the MG42lmg and hmg versions is indeed the mounting... and the number of barreles. Of course both types of units carrioed as much ammo as possible. And the HMG was able to carry more, bu the huge difference was that in a rifle squad a couple barrlels was carried while in an HMG group, not only was the stability of a tripod available, but the high speed trained changeout ofthe 5 carried barrelels.
