Creating Irvington Scenario

We are looking to create some scenarios using map 230 (Irvington) since we do our practice tests on it. We were going to wargame them on the large screen proxima and have someone playing OPFOR.

I have read the manual several times and am unclear how to create a scenario and save it for later use as a two-player game. I go the "custom US Army" route on a two player game - but can't create the scenario for both sides where I can load it later for a network game instead of a hotseat.

Is there an easier way or have I missed it somewhere?

Technically you do not create a "scenario" file - you create a "saved game" file.

Scenario files end in '.sce' , are factory provided files, and can not be created or changed by the user.

Saved game files end in '.tac' and can be created and changed by the user.

Say you have two computers - call them computer 1 and computer 2...

On computer 1, load the "Custom Scenario US Army.sce" file in two player on one computer mode, add Blue and Red units, then save your work as a "saved game" file. Pass a copy of that saved game file to computer 2. Then restart TacOps on both computers and load that "saved game" file on each.

For the actual network game, restart in "Two Players - Network" mode with computer 1 as the Blue computer and with computer 2 as the Red computer and load that same saved game with each.

You should be in business.

A longer explanation ...

Goal: Create a saved game file that can later be used to startup a CPX LAN network game.

First you need to create a saved game file which contains both Blue and Red units ...

Run TacOps.

Select "Two Players" radio button and click OK.

Select "Custom Scenario US Army.sce" and click "Open".

Select "map231c.map": and click "Open".

The map should appear on your screen.

A password window should appear on your screen.

Specify a Blue password (or not) and click "OK".

Add some Blue units to the game by using the "Options/Add Optional Units" menu item and or by using the "Options/Add One Unit" menu item.

Deselect the Orders/Do Blue Unit Orders menu item.

A password window should appear on your screen.

Specify a Red password (or not) and click "OK".

Add some Red units to the game by using the "Options/Add Optional Units" menu item and or by using the "Options/Add One Unit" menu item.

Deselect the "Orders/Do Red Unit Orders" menu item.

Select the "File/Save Game" menu item.

Enter a filename ending in ".tac" and click "Save".

Quit TacOps.

Now you need to get that saved game file onto both computers that will be playing in the network game ...

Copy the saved game file from above onto a floppy disk, pass the floppy to computer number two and copy the saved game file into the TacOps folder on computer number two.

Computer 1:

Run TacOps.

Select the "Two Players - Network" radio button.

Select the "Blue" radio button.

Select the "Saved Game" radio button and click "OK".

Select and load the saved game file that you saved earlier.

Choose a shared directory on one of the two computers.

If asked, tell the computer where to find "Custom Scenario US Army.sce".

If asked, tell the computer where to find "map231c.map".

The map should appear on your screen and this computer is ready to play the

Blue side in a network game.

Computer 2:

Run TacOps.

Select the "Two Players - Network" radio button.

Select the "Red" radio button.

Select the "Saved Game" radio button and click "OK".

Select and load the saved game file that you saved earlier.

Choose the same shared directory, on the same computer, as was previously chosen by computer 1.

If asked, tell the computer where to find "Custom Scenario US Army.sce".

If asked, tell the computer where to find "map231c.map".

The map should appear on your screen and this computer is ready to play the Red side in a network game.

Play the game.
