Main gun

Is the main gun's length taken into consideration when traversing narrow areas?

In other words can a tank be in a situation where there is no room to rotate the main gun. Say a tank has it's main gun rotated 90 degrees to the left. The tank approaches a narrow wooded path. Would the tank automatically rotate the gun to allow room to pass or will the tank come to a halt, awaiting an order from you to rotate the gun so that it can process a movement order through the narrow path.

PS If you make a movie of an overhead shot, a view above a tank rotating it's main gun would be cool. Oh, and don't forget to have it fire.

No game to date has accurately simulated either turret or hull rotation abilities in dense terrain. But we are at least addressing the issue smile.gif

We can not have totally accurate rotation system because we don't simulate individual trees, telephone poles, or other blocking obstacles. However, we do have something almost as good, and certainly better than any other game ever made...

The turret's rotation speed is dependent on gun "overhang" and the terrain at the END of the gun barrel. This takes care of the situations like a narrow dirt road through dense forest. In such a case a short barreled Sherman 75 can rotate at nearly full speed, while a King Tiger will be slow as molasses. Not perfect, but certainly enough to penalize the German tanks for having such big guns. And trust us, the German turrets rotate so slowly as it is, a penalty in a shootout will assure plenty of problems for them smile.gif

We are also simulating hull rotation speed in tough terrain. This is something else that other games don't touch with a 10 foot pole. This means that a King Tiger (love them, don't I <g>) can go straight through light woods, but trying to maneuver in them won't be a quick thing. A Stuart, on the other hand, will have a much easier (faster) experience.

The combination of the two totally hose something like a Jagdpanther. Long hull and a VERY long gun. If it goes down a narrow road in the woods nothing had better pop up on its sides. Chances are it will get knocked out long before it can position itself to take care of the situation. Makes me have a totally new appreciation for the Hetzer smile.gif

Those tankers will be sweating as they roll through the woods. I'm not familar with armored tactics but this limitation in dense terain gives infantry a needed edge.

That Jagdpanther better have flanking protection because I think everyone and thier grandmother will be coming up the flanks.
