Hi-res mods? What are they?

Recommended Posts

Hi-Res mods are simply the original texture file enlarged to double the size in pixels.

For instance a file that is 64x128 normally can be enlarged to 128x256. Thus giving a texture with 4x the amount of pixels. Basically makes a pixel in the original file into a 4x4 pixel in the new one.

With this larger file, detail can be drawn in better as you may imagine. It allows the artist to manipulate the lines in the texture for clearer details.

There are, nor will there ever be any user made models. This portion of the code is encoded if you will. Each vehicle is just not a fancy 3D model. They entail a very maticulate researched collection of data and statistics that the ordinary user can't possibly code into the game.

This game was highly researched for real world physics, unit characteristics, and such. The designers even did live-fire tests of small arms in the game to get an idea of what each was really capable of.

Well, some are a lot more than double the texture resolution. Some of Panzertruppens buildings are like EIGHT times the size. Your mileage may vary.

stic.man, your graphics card is what sets the limit. I have a pretty crappy card with only 4MB VRAM. My solution is to use terrain textures that are way below the standard textures in resolution and colours, and then use hi-res textures for units.

Your computer seem newer, and probably have better performance. Will probably have problems with hi-res files all over, but you can most probably try out a couple at a time without significant problems.

Cheers
