Platform Recommendation

Recommended Posts

So Steve, for us dual platform users, which would you reccomend we run Combat Mission on? Forget the "whatever you feel more comfortable with." Given they are equal in performance, would Mac or PC be the way to go?

Without any bias what-so-ever, the CM Mac MHz for MHz out performs CM PC. The reason is that floating point math makes up the bulk of the CPU intensive compuations, and the PowerPC family of chips is hands down the best at it. How much better? Hard to say. The Mac will give you better performance in software rendering mode and in turn crunching. However, any fast PC or Mac with a recent 3D card will feel about the same.

So in the end... Either will do if you have a recent system. But if you have an older one, especially w/o 3D hardware, the Mac is the better bet. But why choose? CM will ship on a hybrid CD, so you can figure out for yourself which one is best.

If you noticed that we take orders by platform, this is so we can know our customers better. One of the "reasons" why there was no Close Combat 3 for the Mac is that MS had no good numbers to go by and just assumed that it was 9:1 in the favor of PCs. Our current PC:Mac orders are something like 3:1, which tells you why it is important to track this info. Ignorance will just hurt us and our customers...

Steve
