Cormand
First post in a long while, been busy with the demo . While looking at the info screen in CE I noticed that the stats for the LMG42 are different between a VG squad and a Heavy SMG one. The VG-LMG42 has firepower 50/45/30/18 and the SMG 20/38/32/19. Is this a typo or a difference between the weapons? Cormand
Guest Madmatt
You should do a search as this was covered some time ago already. In short the HMG-42 is a crew served version with a tri-pod mounting and better sights and as such will have higher ROF and much higher firepower rating. The LMG is just on a bi-pod at best with maybe one assistant gunner helping out. Functionally the weapons are indentical though. Madmatt out... Whoops! I guess I read your question wrong! Sorry I thought you wanted the differences between the LMG-42 and the HMG-42, although I would imagine your answer would be quite similar. Sorry about that! Lee
Yes, the weapons themselves are the same (LMG, HMG). But the HMG is on a nifty tripod that enables very precise fire over long distances. There is also a scope made for this mount that aids in aiming. Thus increasing the effective firepower of the gun, particularly at longer ranges. Now, as to the difference between those particular units, I'm not sure. But it may have to do with a lot more ammo being carried at the ready for their gun by the VG squad. This would allow a higher sustained rate of fire for those times when you need to really pour on the fire.
Cormand
Ok on the ammo, but why should the Heavy SMG squad's LMG have a higher FP at 100m than at 40? And on 250 and 500 m it has FP 32/19 as opposed to the VG squad at 30/18, a small difference but why?? Cormand
Fionn
Cormand, Those are typos as far as I know. It doesn't affect the performance but I think the data pages for the units contain a few minor typos in the beta demo. ------------------ ___________ Fionn Kelly Manager of Historical Research, The Gamers Net - Gaming for Gamers
Cormand
I guessed it might be that, but "better safe than sorry". Thanks Fionn! Cormand
