Where's are fearless leader?

Recommended Posts

How do we know which squad belongs to which platoon and which platoon to which company? Seeing that command and control is so important, if a squad gets cut off from their leader, how will I know which direction to send them to reestablish contact? Or will I need to rely on a corporal or other NCO to lead the cut off men. Also, please answer the same question for the higher echelons as well.

Thanks.

Mike

Each unit has a unique ID visible when you click on the unit. This follows the standard letter/number convention. So a platoon might be "Platoon E" with units "E0" (HQ), "E1" (1st Squad), "E2" (2nd Squad), and "E3" (3rd Squad). The ties between units are therefore quite obvious.

When you click on a unit a line draws from it to its command HQ. If the line is a dark red, C&C is established. A black line means C&C is broken. There is also an icon in the user interface that tells you if you are in contact or not. If you click on an HQ it draws lines to all of its subordinate units. This way you can see who is commanded by who and if the communications are established.

A unit cut off (one that is too far away from its HQ) is "on its own". It can fight just the same, but it is much slower to respond to your move orders. The poorer the unit, the worse the delay. Oh, and they have a greater chance of breaking and less of a chance of rallying.

Higher echelons work the same way, but with much greater area of communications. A Bt. HQ would be in radio contact with its CO. HQs for example.

Command and control is a central element to Combat Mission. We think you'll be pleased with the end result smile.gif
