Smoke on the battlefield

Recommended Posts

Sefchick:

Smoke will just go more or less up. It was discussed not too long ago, and it was said to be too CPU intensive to do anything else. I don't think it will be all that noticeable in the heat of battle, any more than say the light direction not changing, or something like that.

Hi Joe,

Kevin is correct. To correctly simulate smoke dispersal in a 3D environment is a massive task. As I am sure you know, smoke does not move evenenly around a battlefield. Tall buildings, eleveations, wind channels, etc. would all make smoke move around differently depending on the wind conditions. Plus, even if we did somehow manage to program this stuff in (without killing the CPU), how would we display it? Think about that one too long and your head will hurt wink.gif
