Battlefront Repository Posted June 25, 2012 Share Posted June 25, 2012 The 51st (Highland) Division became operational in Normandy on June 7th, 1944 and took part in the entire Normandy Campaign except for the initial assault landings on D-Day (although one brigade did see some action on June 6th). The 51st (Highland) Division saw action at Breville, Ranville, Colombelles, Tilly-la-Campagne, Lisieux and Saint-Valery-en-Caux. The 51st Division had some initial difficulty translating their successes in the Mediterranean to the Normandy battlefields, and was considered by higher command to have ‘underperformed’, leading the replacement of their CO in July 1944.
