    Can confirm this.

There are 9 types of churches in the Black Sea v2.16 map editor. Same in any earlier version of the game. And they work as such.

But in v2.18 there are only 4 church buttons.

So that might not be accurate for my game. Im looking at it now and I only have up to version 216 but still don't have those extra churches. 🧐

No kidding? That's lame. How do I fix it? Did version 2.18 bring anything important to the game or nah? Id rather have more churches than stupid trivial "improvements"

  3. When I first bought CMBS, I had 8 or 9 different churches I could pick from and place in the editor. Now I only have 4. I know they existed, because the buildings are still in the exploded game files and one of them is used in a map of Hostomel that I made, I just can't see the buttons for them in the editor. Any idea why they suddenly disappeared from my editor options? How do I fix it?

Well. I know you are grateful for the stuff I did for your CMBS project. But this thread is trying to get folks to write a scenario for a new mod I am making that requires the CMFI base game and 2 modules. Korea 1950 scenarios I offered ideas for in the above links.

I am aware... What I'mm saying is it couldn't hurt me to brush up on history a bit, so I'll probably buy the game and then make you a scenario. I'll look into the links above. Mustve missed them before.

Nobody has volunteered or expressed any interest to make a Korea scenario except for you.

Well, nobody really seems to be making much content at all lately, for what it's worth.

At this point, I will enjoy the mod and probably just keep it for internal use and not take the extra effort to polish it and release it.

    Sad day. 😕

  5. Copy. Honestly, for just a broad picture of things, Wikipedia has a lot of information if you start with the 2014 Crimean Crisis and follow the timeline and click the available reference links. As far as granular military engagements from 2014-now, I will see if any of my people know somebody who participated in any of the noteworthy engagements. Alternatively, Ukrainian news sites will have basic articles about the smaller engagements, and some longer articles about the larger ones. I have a bunch of those translated and saved somewhere. I'll start looking for them tomorrow.

  6. Hey mate,
If you need any more information about the active war, let me know. I might also be able to provide some lesser known information about the low intensity conflict from 2014-2022. I've got a few contacts currently in the country and several others who have left, but all of them spent a significant amount of time in Ukraine before and during the invasion. I'm not really sure what exactly you are looking for, but if you need info on something specific, shoot me a DM with questions and I'll send you back any info I've got. If I don't have any information, I'll ask my contacts and see what they know.

  7. Ok, I'm trying to find elevation data for Ukraine and I'm realizing I have no idea what I'm doing. I found gray scale height maps of the area I'm trying to map and tried to follow along with your other video using QGIS but I keep getting an error code and I don't understand what is going wrong because I don't really understand what I am even trying to do. What kind of files am I looking for to start with? What am I converting them into? I'm trying to understand here but I am so confused. 😭

Very glad to read this. 😊 Meanwhile I took a look at what needs to be done for the CMBS profile. Seems like this is relatively similar to others so maybe it's not that much to do and I can do it myself.

So far everything I've asked it to do in Black Sea has worked. 😎 It froze once and then glitched and kept repeating the same step another time, but both times it happened were on a massive map with a lot of data I was using to test it's limitations, so it was understandable. You did a great job making this thing. 🤘

If we can find a way to get usable elevation data for Ukraine, that would be amazing, but honestly, so far it hasn't been too bad entering those on my own.

I assume you mean when running osm2cm? There are several parts that can take quite since time (without explicitly telling you so). The larger the map the longer it takes.

Anyway, as I keep reminding people, my telepathy skills are woefully lacking, so could you please provide me with a little more detail? 😉

About your other question (probably related): Yes, you can just do the OSM stuff without elevations. In that case, when running osm2cm, instead of reading a grid file, you can choose to enter the bounding box manually.

Caveat: There is no CMBS profile (yet), so actually running cmautoeditor on the processed osm data will lead to wierd results. I always meant to add that profile but right now I'm a bit preoccupied with RL stuff. I'm not certain which of the other profiles is closest to CMBS and works best.
Depending on your coding skills you could contribute the profile yourself (it's not actually coding, more adding kind of lookup tables). Otherwise I'll have to ask you to have a little patience.

One more thing: Do you play the steam version?

Yes, that's what I meant. My apologies for not being more specific. I will try with a much smaller map and see if I have better luck.

I am pretty clueless when it comes to computer coding, but I am willing to attempt to help. Just don't expect a whole lot. 🥴

No, I do not play on steam.

  10. Copy that. I decided to do my first map of the area the old fashioned way and spent about 8 hours on it last night. If I could expedite this even slightly it would help a lot.

I understand the differences in the elevation model types and I have actually noticed locations in Google earth with wonky elevations because they used DEM models instead of the DTMs. Ie; Hostomel, Ukraine has a bunch of imaginary hills that start at the forest edges around the south end of the town in Google Earth. (I actually had to go back and correct my map of the area when I got access to better info and realized my mistake.)

All that being said, is your program usable if I choose to skip the elevation data and only want to use it for the OSM data? If so, can you briefly explain how I can do that? You did a great job explaining how to import elevation data, but honestly, that's the easiest part for me to do on my own thanks to my career field (civil construction/civil design/earthwork estimator). Is there a way to just skip the elevation data, import the rest of the stuff, and then do my own elevations afterward?

Please forgive me if thats a stupid question, I just don't really understand this process much and get lost any time I try. I was able to follow your tutorial video in a very linear fashion, but even that was a stretch for me. 🥴😅

  11. I'm trying to make this work with maps of Ukraine and having a lot of trouble getting anything to work right, even after watching the tutorials and trying to follow along. Does anybody who has had luck with this feel like helping me make a base map for a campaign centered on the current counteroffensive efforts in the Robotnye/Tokmak axis?

    Hmmm. OK.

I do not own CMCW but if you do, does CW have this BTR-D?

The below is copied from another thread of mine...

    MDR SWAPPING 101

I write this from the perspective of a WW2 CM game fan...

If I CANNOT get a new influx of game-coded vehicles for the early war periods, I have to look at swapping a vehicle in for a specific mod. I will refer to this as mdr swapping other wise known as "mdr shenanigans".

We're all really just staring at a screen of spreadsheets fighting each other, right? Something like that? The armor ratings, the turret turn rate, rate of fire, etc.

I have taken the mdr file of one vehicle and renamed it to the mdr filename of another vehicle to get the on screen result I wanted. But the game engine knows what it really is and all the physics stays the same. The player is not happy to see a Romanian R-35 fire off a multi-round burst of main gun fire because underneath it is still a Lynx. So, sometimes these vehicle swaps are best limited to roles of battlefield debris, damaged tanks, etc. maybe set the ammo to severe, maybe use a conscript crew, send them down a mined road as part of an AI plan. AS AN EXAMPLE FROM CMRT ROMANIAN MOD, if CMRT had an actual R-35 on the axis side, then no "mdr shenanigans" would be required. CMFI has one on the axis side.

We have apples, oranges and pears. If we can get a fuji apple to take the place of a macintosh apple, then maybe the overall results are not so awful. The R-35 layed over the Lynx wasn't so bad, I thought. I also did a T-34 from CMRT layed over the Panzer IV to be captured T-34 training for the invasion of Malta. Also, I did the Australian R-35 in CMFI Afrika Mod layed over the Stuart.

My terms are "shell" vehicle mdr, the one you want to see in the game. It is on the outside like the shell of an egg. "host" vehicle mdr is on the inside, it is what the gamecode and associated physics see.

    1. Go get the folder for the shell vehicle (mdr files, bmp files, UI file), bring it to the new Z folder in a subfolder.

    2. Then you must find the host mdr's folder and get the host mdr's mdr files, usually 3 or so?

    3. Bring them into that same subfolder with the shell's stuff. Select the first host mdr file, then I hit F2 for rename then control c to copy the filename to the clitboard.

    THEN DELETE THAT FILE.

    4. Select the first file of the shell and hit F2 and hit ctrl v and also add in your [france1940] modtag at the end. hit enter

    5. Do the same steps 3 and 4 for the other host files until all the original host mdr files are deleted and the shell files are all renamed with modtags.

The gamecode sees the hosts name but displays the shell on the screen in modtagged scenarios.

The last bit of icing on the cake is to modify the UI in game portrait or silhouette.

I like to try and use Juju's nice UI images for the shell vehicle or make your own and rename as host filename with modtag.

The bmps do not have to be renamed for vehicle mdr swaps

For uniform mds swapping, they do have to be renamed...

This is definitely helpful and explained another issue I've been having. Thank you for sharing! That being said, no, the BTR-D does not exist in any of the games. Neither did the BMD-2 though, but the compilation in this thread has a vehicle swap mod that allows you to turn the BMP into a BMD. 🤔 Basically the BTR-D is just a BMD-2 without a turret.

I do not own CMBS. But I offer to try to walk you through doing it yourself...

It is just some file renaming. Very easy stuff if you have the files.

Well, thats the thing. There isn't a model for the BTR-D in the games already 😕
I'm still curious how you'd suggest doing this though, so please still explain.

  14. Hey guys,
Can someone replace the MT-LBU1V14 model with a model of the turretless BTR-D that the Russian VDV uses as a command vehicle please? I have used the mod in this compilation that changes the BMP-2 to the BMD-2, and I've got the mod that turns the Russian infantry into VDV, so I've basically got everything I need to create a full VDV unit besides the BTR-D model. If someone could help me out, that would be killer. Thanks!

Not sure if this matters, but I am referring to Black Sea vehicles.
