  1. I was sceptical when I went to bed last night. Prigozhin's bragging about 25k soldiers seemed like blowing hot air. Sure, people were talking about a convoy, but visual evidence of this convoy was nonexistent.

And then I woke up to news about Wagner having taken control of all of Rostov, and preparing for a thunder run on Moscow with tanks, artillery, SAM launchers, and all kinds of heavy equipment which the loyalist security forces reportedly does not have. And yes, actual video evidence of clashes between Wagner and loyalist forces.

Welcome to Tom Clancy's 21st century.

Of course, I'm just a small fry in this part of the internet. :D

Feel free to do whatever you'd like with the scenario, at this point I've moved on entirely and I don't see myself spending the time to revisit it.

If you would like I've sort of completed another, larger version of that concept. I'm not sure how it will play out just yet but I think both sides will be struggling.

The only rule is not to cross the river with tanks until the bridge is fully built. I WILL be adding a briefing to this one with more of an explanation of how things work. I might add more stuff to it too, not sure yet. Feel free to preview or try it out if you want something more PBEM friendly and less of an experiment. It's a Ukrainian pincer attack on a town while the Russians rush to reinforce it by laying a bridge. Gamey concept but makes for an interesting twist:

Ooh, a Black Sea version of Rumpenheim? Definitely interested.

I gotta ask, though - does this come with a mission briefing?

Also, could I please have the reinforcement timeline/schedules for your first MRB scenario (the one you made before the rive crossing one), so I can add it to the briefing?

What the hell someone's playing one of my scenarios? Two people. Well that sure is flattering. Glad to hear!

I apparently did not write down the reinforcement timings so I'll do that now. I don't remember why, but probably so I didn't spoil things for either side if played pbem considering there are no AI plans. I now realize that I never adjusted the BLU's veterancy, considering they were there on this scenario originally. All I did was replace the Russian side, adding my own flavor to this preexisting scenario. Oops. Additionally I did not really intend for this to be played PBEM in the first place, apparently. Now that I'm reviewing this, the BLU side is crazy strong compared to the Red. The better player must take red and know their chances of success are very, very low.

I really intended for this to be a showcase scenario of how to employ brigade level assets. Any fighting done is a bonus. This is definitely different than most scenarios as it opens up potential for simulation of real world forces and tactics in a way.

Sorry about that. It sort of disappoints me that I released this in it's state. I was probably just happy to post it. I really just wanted to show off the Brigade I created (it's in the thread posted below. You can play with it and make your own scenarios with it too). If you want a really good historical CMBS scenario to play, I highly recommend the Hostomel Airport map which was released somewhat recently. There are 2 on these forums. I recommend both, but the newer one is more up to date and is larger.

I will post the BLU first, and then the RED. So ignore your opponents side as to not spoil things.

    BLUFOR REINFORCEMENTS:

    20 minutes: 2nd platoon of 1st motorized rifle company + 2 drones

25 minutes: 4th platoon (Weapons) of 1st motorized rifle company

30 minutes: 3rd platoon of 1st motorized rifle company

    30 minutes (+ or - 5 minutes): 6x 152mm guns + battalion mortars (6x 120mm Mortar)

    30 minutes (+ or - 10 minutes): 3rd motorized rifle company + 6x 122mm guns

40 minutes: 1st platoon of 1st motorized rifle company + HQ

    60 minutes: Battalion HQ

    REDFOR REINFORCEMENTS:

    15 minutes: Bridging platoon

40 minutes: Advance guard (1 MBT platoon, 1 mechanized rifle company (MTLB), ATGM platoon, Mortar battery).

50 minutes: Battalion HQ + battalion signal platoon

The briefing is in this thread here:

I usually don't go the extra mile to add briefings to my scenarios, I just create them schizophrenically and leave them to rot on my hard drive. They're usually left 80% finished.

It's really strange that you post about this now, because just last night I was recreating something like this on a CMCW map Rumpenheim Rumpus. I barely finished placing the engineering assets down. I was trying to find a nice wide river instead of something small like the Siverskyi-Donets.

Sorry if there's any disappointment, I should flesh this out. I usually jump back and fourth between games when my interest is there to create stuff - mainly from the TOE's I've created.

Nice! I'm super glad to have gotten a response!

Since adding the briefings to the scenarios honestly seems pretty trivial, shall I go ahead and copy-paste them? Or will you?

The briefing is in the other thread.

Please, please tell me which other thread!

(Like, this scenario really should just...have the briefing, you know? I'm actually playing this HtH with someone else because we're interested in the premise but we're in the dark as to what reinforcements we get if any.)

There will be no replay feature for CM2. I've explained why and I don't really care if you accept it or not.  It just isn't a viable commercial feature.  Period, end of story.

You guys have also asked that we ship a pony with every game for a long time, and that's not going to happen either :)

    Steve

I will echo others in wanting a reiteration of this explanation. No one else in the CM-focused circles I hang out in seems to have any bloody clue why a replay feature would not be "commercially viable," not even the ones who hang around in the forums a *lot.*

There is, in fact, reason to believe that a replay feature would be a massive shot in the arm for the CM community. It would definitely reduce the work on content creators like Usually Hapless and Grey Fox. Heck, I might even consider some CM videos if I had one big replay file/vid I could use instead of loading dozens of PBEM files and sitting through the loading screen each time.

I mean...what could the explation possibly be? The replay function plainly exists, it works, and commercial customers want it. So...???????????????????????

  6. Steve, no one wants yet more Americans.

Steve, everyone agrees that Poland would be a fricking awesome addition to CM: BS, and would make perfect sense within the setting.

Steve, I want my eclectic Polish Armed Forces with their mix of Western, Soviet, and domestically produced gear. T-72s, PP-91s, and Leopard 2s all.

    Steeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeve. plz

At a time yet to be determined we're going to give Black Sea a long awaited Module of its own.  This Module will include US Marines, Ukrainian Airborne, and Russian Airborne forces with the usual awesome Campaigns and Battles that come with all Modules.  This Module is very far along in development, however we don't want to make guesses as to when it will be released right now.  We'll let you know soon enough.

I'm very happy to hear about more content for Black Sea! It's the scenario that interests me the most.

At the same time, I do wonder how exactly they are going to do the new content. Particularly the Ukrainians. The fictional scenario of Black Sea has gone from a speculative near-future to alt-history, since IRL was knocked wildly off course by the events of 2014 and the "frozen conflict" since then.

I'd really really like to see an IRL TO&E for the Ukrainian forces that reflects the changes to the command structure and so on as a result of their attempts to adapt. This stuff fascinates me. I know that the Black Sea Ukrainian war isn't the same as the IRL Ukrainian conflict, but I think this can be fudged since Black Sea takes place in 2017.

I'd also like to see unconventional forces for Russia. Various "uncon" forces - proxies, mercenaries, and so on - have been essential to Russian operations since 2010 or so.

Please, please look at the Red C2 and give the Uncons some more Specialist Teams (esp. Breach Teams) & Individual Vehicles

Very much agreed on fixing Red C2. The Syrian army has it hard enough without being forced to communicate with shouting and rude gestures as if it's the 1800s.

We're still planning on doing an Engine 5 Upgrade that focuses on performance improvements.  No firm idea when this will be ready to talk about more, not to mention when we'll release it.  Oh, and it will be a free Upgrade this time around.

Definitely happy to hear Engine 5 will be a free update! I really hope it's not just limited to performance improvements, though. CM Pro has so many cool features - especially the full replay feature (with assorted things like ammunition expenditure) that deserve to make it into the commercial product. Replay will make it so much easier to create CM content.

  8. It just seems a really rough scenario.

You're supposed to grab some objective locations (a bunch of houses) on the other side of the swamp, but the Russians get their mech infantry before you and can infest that area first. And by the time you get your own infantry and Bradley IFVs, they have a few tanks on the field and trying to cross the open ground to get to the stream - never mind the village - is suicide.

And then all the Russian tanks arrive. So. Many. Tanks.

If I dare say so myself, I think I did decently well by getting a 6:1 tank kill ratio with my 4 Abrams and the Javelin-armed infantry. Thing is, I needed a banzai charge from the Russians to manage that, and afterwards I was in no fit state to push forwards. That didn't get me points within the context of the scenario.

Any advice? What sort of principles should I be employing in a situation like this? Is it really reasonable for the scenario to expect me to push forwards and occupy the village with the forces I've been given?
