  1. Thanks mister! Now I'll have to figure out how to photoshop or how can I modify this properly... Hmmmmmmm Thanks again!
  2. Hello gentlemen. Recently, I've been involved in a personal proyect about the Russian illegal invasion of Ukraine in 2022, more specifically the topic surrounding the Battle for Kyiv. I would like to use some sort of maps and honestly, the ones that portray better, in a more intuitive and easy way are those from the CMBS campaign briefing maps. They are simple, easy to understand, has relevant geographical features highlighted, main roads and highways and cities. One such map for Northern Ukraine would be of inmense help... ...If I just knew how you do those maps or where could I get them? The question, esentially is; how do I get a CMBS-style map for Ukraine?
  3. Hello Battlefront Community! In this post I would like to ask, and eventually know if it's possible to add NVG capabilities for the UKR side. Especially for Infantry and most(all...) vehicles. Is there a way I can dig through the ingame archives and edit the UKR NVG capabilities for each individual unit/vehicle? Also, wether that's possible or not... How can I add the Russian, or US helmet-mounted NVGs in the UKR infantry? Just to give them a badass looking outfit))
  4. Good evening gentlemen! So, not too long ago I made a question regarding the possible use of Cavalry in both CMBS and CMSF2. And, still inspired by how the Cavalry units work, how to apply them in these games, how to maximize their potential and general interest into XXI-century Cavalry, I decided to try my best to modify the Ukrainian "Brigade Reconnaissance Company"(since it's the closest UKR unit to Western Cavalry) into two different types of sections, similar to how the US Cavalry works in both Bradley-oriented and Stryker-oriented sections. Why just at section level and not company level? Because I found out that CM battles are more suited for section vs section battles rather than companies and even battalions... I would have to write a separate topic on that tho. So, let's begin: UKR Bucephalus CavSec, aproximately equivalent to US Stryker CavSec: x2 BTR-4E Bucephalus - Each embarked with TWO Scout Teams and ONE specialised squad(Korsar, Sniper, Forward Artillery Observer, JTAC, etc). x1 BRM-1K - Embarked with section HQ. The BRM-1K specialised cameras, sensors, signals, detectors etc make it ideal for both command and reconnaissance. UKR Mechanized CavSec, aproximately equivalent to US Bradley CavSec: x2 BMP-2 - Each embarked with ONE Scout Team and ONE specialised squad(as above mentioned). 1 BRM-1K - Embarked with section HQ. The very same description as above. TIPS - Purchase the BMP-2s manually, these will thus be granted with NVG capabilities. Also, just as US Cav units frequently use the FGM-148, I would deploy Korsars as the specialised squad for each BMP-2/BTR-4E, it will greatly improve the section antitank capabilities at long range and also needs no time for deployment nor packing up, like the Javelin.
  5. Thank you sir for this long and dedicated answer! I understood that this Scimitar vs BMP example is usually in a random Encounter where both sides have not yet established solid defensive lines, in the opening hours-days of a WP invasion. Same can be done in CMBS in a US-UKR Cav/Rec meeting with Russian forwards elements, just as in CMSF2 where NATO Recon engages Syrian troops in the outskirts or in the movement between their main cities. But... Regarding operational theatres where solid fronts have been built, how does Cav/Recon plays there? In CMBS the only thing that comes to my mind are these scenarios; 1- Routinary harrassment of enemy screens and forward bases(30min time before QRF comes in force). 2- Same but while defending(1 hour, let's make things difficult). 3- Sudden enemy breakthrough and you have to cover your brigade's retreat by engaging an enemy reinforced BTG(2 hours). And in CMSF2? What kind of scenarios come to mind as an occupying force? Clear the desert and scan for insurgents in lonely villages? You will usually blow them up, least you have some very unlucky ATGM hit(which actually happens a lot if you like to spice up things)... I don't, anyone has any idea??? Not just scenarios for US Cavalry and Russian/Ukrainian Recon, also something improvised with NATO armies...
  6. I've used Ukrainian Recon units most of the time and the BRM-1K looks good on paper, but it requires certain skill. It can spot and engage targets far away but their aim is terrible. When used at medium-close range, they are quite handy. Also, for any UKR Recon formation, I tend to dismiss BTR-4Es in exchange for BMP-2s. The main reason being, individually bought BMP-2s in the UKR side already include 2 NVGs for the crew. Now I'm trying to learn how to use US-NATO(if any) CAV units. So far, I love the M1127 Stryker CAV formations. Although it needs some extra infantry. Regarding other NATO countries, they have little to zero cavalry-reconnaissance units, besides some Dutch-German Fennek...
  7. Hello Battlefront forum! It's been a year since I last appeared to give a question about CMSF stuff, and now I would like to have a deeper view into Cavalry and Reconnaissance units inside the CMSF and CMBS worlds. In regards to CMSF: -US Stryker and Armored Cavalry. In regards to CMBS. -Ukrainian Brigade/Corps Reconnaissance Company/Battalion. -US Stryker/Bradley Cavalry Troops/Squadrons. -Russian Reconnaissance Battalions. How do you use these kind of units??? They are mostly designed and equipped for reconnaissance missions, skirmishes and sort of delicate situations. Most Combat Mission battles involves conventional combat, so where would the Cavalry/Recon units have advantage at? Since these battles don't take more than 2 hours maximum and are designed for the player encountering and fighting the enemy, how useful are the M1127 Strykers, or the BRM-1K and other reconnaissance platforms? Cavalry/Recon is suited with vehicles specialised in enemy detection, they have more special cameras in exchange for firepower and passenger capacity. Cav/Recon infantry is equipped with less heavy weapons, but in exchange receive better signals(radios, PDAs) and sighting(NVGs). So, what are these kind of units good for in the CM universe? Can they be used as units for scanning and clearing large maps lightly defended as their real life counterparts? Can they be used to engage larger more powerful formations to give rear units more time to retreat-counterattack? And how would that be done trying to survive a Russian BTG using M1127s with a few squads armed with FGM-148? The only times I do really feel as a Cavalry troop commander is when selecting huge maps with some unconventional rebels scattered, or harassing Russian forward echelon units.
  8. I would like to slightly redirect the topic since the thread already went full off-topic... Does anyone know a good manual or thread or anything to learn how to effectively use German and other NATO infantry-only units against Unconventional enemies? I already behave pretty good role-playing a section-company of German paratroopers clearing small villages, towns and even cities taking little casualties and always coordinating with Tornados and mortars(no big guns available for paras). But nevertheless, I would still like to hear some recommendations, tips, anything to get more experience and skill at this. What I still haven't tried though is to fight a German Fallschirmjäger vs Syrian Army... Mechanized forces are harsh to confront heads on if not ambushing in the Western paratrooper doctrine.
  9. I love how the thread has evolved to several other more issues and aspects of the game and player based projects.
  10. Thanks to everyone for their polite, extended and well explained points in their replies. Though I am going to focus on this one specifically Regarding the first point, I mostly agree on anything but I do still believe that there would be a difference on their behaviour when it comes to the Western civilian losses. Let's suppose Spain gets one of her major cities attacked but only 10-30 people die from inmediate, brutal doses of radiation while still getting some urban areas highly contaminated, Spanish forces may likely act as in CMSF is stipulated, taking care not to cause many civilian casualties. But on the other hand, somehow in The Netherlands, one of their cities gets not just highly irradiated, but also half a million people get extreme doses of radiation... I strongly believe the Dutch Army commanding officers would overlook a lot more civilian casualties than Spain, ignoring possible barbaric acts from their own soldiers. (Btw, I would pay for a Spanish Army mod in CMSF2 ) And about the second, third and fourth points... How does 9/11 compare to dirty bombing several major cities at once? Yes, 9/11 was a very, very important turning point in History; the West pretty much instantly changed from a relaxed behaviour after 1991 to a state of anti-terrorist paranoia, where military interventions were easily justified and it was all about that "bearded old man holstering an AKS-74U in a cave" and neutralising potential sponsors of terrorism(Iraq)........ But dirty bombing? In the most optimistic scenario, you only get a few hundreds killed by radiation and a few thousand needing specialised CBRN medical assistance, it would be just as lethal as 9/11 just like that. However, you are causing national traumas to not just the US, you are causing national traumas to Germany, the Netherlands, United Kingdom, Canada, Spain... And also deniying the use of very important urban terrain to those countries. To make it easier to understand, in my case, I serve in the Spanish Land Forces in a unit very close to Madrid and I was born and raised in the capital, just as many of the guys in my unit. My home is just 3km from the main Madrilian cultural and social center, where our most preciated museums are, the heart of this city, the "0km of Spain" where everything begins. You cannot(me neither) probably imagine how shocked and revengeful I would be if one such dirty bomb were to make it impossible for me and everyone else to linger around these symbolic places. Now add to the combination that there's a lot, a lot of people inside not just my unit, but the whole Armed Forces that are extremists(if you know what I mean). The daily routine here is not complete if you don't hear at least 5 jokes or references that are politically incorrect, having especially negative feelings towards non-Western countries, cultures and religions. I promise some people have extremely radical mindsets around. And it's a general problem you can find in pretty much any Armed Forces in any country. Can you imagine what such people would do in a scenario like CMSF? I mean, these terrorists have utterly irradiated for centuries Madrid's historical urban area, one of the most iconic places in the country and we are deploying this kind of people in Syria... Extrapolate this example to several other European countries and you get the idea of what I mean. You can build a thousand more Twin Towers if you wish, but you cannot build a copy of Madrid's(or any other major city) historical centre and make like if nothing happened.
  11. Good day to everyone, I'm new in this forum! I would like to first ask something that does not fit right or does not seem very realistic or easy to understand. So according to the game manual in regards to the game's backstory; "Then, one day, a message was sent. The sleepers awoke and made their way to targets of their own personal choosing within cities not directly chosen by their leaders. Within a few hours, dozens of pounds of radioactive waste uranium were detonated by conventional explosives, polluting major cities of the West for hundreds of years." Therefore we might be speaking about civilian casualties counting by the hundreds of thousands, if not a few millions and the brutal unimaginable economic, social and political shock this would have. However we don't know how many 'dirty bombs' were detonated, where and other important technical details, but we could estimate that "major cities of the West" could include cities like Barcelona, Valencia, Strassbourg, Antwerp, Bergen, Lyon, Toulouse, Napoli, Venice, Krakow, Edinbourgh, Newcastle, Hamburg and a few more others in the USA. Thus, in such a catastrophical event, why would NATO members have any regards for the Syrian population? After suddenly murdering and irradiating several millions in the West, the shock would be soo big, I really don't get it why would NATO armies have to take any sort of "caution" when dealing with the Syrian civilians. Many officers, NCOs and soldiers would have very, very strong and negative feelings towards Syria and possibly also the whole Arab/Islamic World since it's possible friends or relatives may have been caught in such terrorists attacks. Reservists and people that join NATO armies after the invasion will surely have similar and extremely negative thoughts and behave as such. And also... After the loss of billions worth in infraestructure, cities, bussiness, CBRN decontamination campaigns, etc. Wouldn't the West care that much for military losses, be it in personnel or hardware? I believe NATO countries would quickly rearm and gear themselves back to almost Cold War levels and EVEN possibly wage war against other suspicious countries like Iran, Pakistan and God knows where else, converting Syria in just a piece of a new world war which may have a strong resemblance to the rivalry of Christianity and Islam during the Middle Ages. Food for thought I guess...
