They weren't routed in the sort of "OMG IM GETTING DESTROYED WAY" but they did withdraw from many places after putting up fights, let's face it getting to form a local force isn't easy on your own, you need to get everything together, train men find veterans in the region, capture vehicles, train your troops. The rebels still put up fights in many cases.

The separatists that retreated as well as Russian media claimed that they were fighting "foreign mercenaries" when the freshly mobilized Ukrainian National Guard arrived. They didn't get super wrecked as you think I'm claiming but they were shocked to say the least.

Incorrect, multiple raids onto Ukrainian positions to capture bases and the vehicles in them were conducted bro. You could easily find a base raid from the Donbas war if you search it up man, I'm too lazy to link you up since I'm sleepy, I'll try to tomorrow if you can't find anything. The Separ terrorist thugs didn't have 700 tanks man, that would have changed the outcome of this war hugely if that was true. Majority of the thugs' equipment is from Ukrainian forces, and I'm sure wiki could show you a raid incident

You ever watched a drone fly over of military stockpiles near Donetsk? They have f#cking a$$ loads of equipment---rows and rows and rows of Russian T-72 variants, Kamaz trucks, sophisticated anti-aircraft weapons, command and control vehicles, systems of electronic warfare etc, etc, etc. It's makes it really difficult to justify that it was all recovered or stolen or raided or teleported or whatever.

Ukraine lost around 200 men killed which is confirmed, the rebels are around the same as the Ukrainians in losses for the battle until the end phase of it where Somali and Sparta held off quite a few assaults. Anyways the casualties on both sides are in the hundreds and around the same for that battle. The thing with taking the airport is it was a propaganda victory, it hit Ukrainian morale hard. Plus in event of ATO 3.0 it can serve as a strategic point. The battle for the airport was mostly volunteers and local troops, Luhansk airport however confrimed even seeing a T-90 which probably Russian troops took part of. Anyways, I'm not roasting you bro :D you always get me when you say that I let out a good laugh.

You make a good point. The destruction of the control tower was the destruction of a symbol of Ukrainian resistance much like the liquidation of the Zaphorizhian Sich by Catherine the Great in 1775 was. Still has zero strategic value though.

Anyways, this of course played a role in how effective a rebel formation was, but results were achieved not to say Ukrainians weren't able to take locations like Slaviansk, Kramatorsk, Mariupol albeit at a high price.

Separatists practically routed from these positions so the Ukrainians did not pay much of a price at all. If you watch watch videos of those battles you will see separatists exhausted and panicked. Where they did pay a price was when Russian line units were involved.

Yes, Russian weapons did trickle into some Militia hands however those weren't game changers, usually the rare equipment like T-72B3s operated by Russian servicemen were game changers of course. But we can't deny most of the fighting was bared solely on the rebels since the start. So yes there were incompetent and competent Rebel units same as the Ukrainian forces.

This argument itself isn't very convincing. During 2014 there was not a single military base or military stockpile or military factory in Donbass. There is no way that the separatists could have possibly acquired an upwards estimate of 700 tanks and many more APCs, the majority of which were never in the Ukrainain arsenal without extensive Russian support.

    1 hour ago, VladimirTarasov said:

That's contradicting your own arguments from before that the Russian troops reversed the Ukrainian's gains... Make up your mind Russian servicemen are poor, or the show runners? Obviously they had a huge impact because they were so capable. Don't play the Ukrainian cyborgs vs Russian inferior card :D

I think he means the vacationers (Russian far-right groups with military background that were mixed in with separatists), not the official Russian troops.

Ukrainian politicians also claimed in Slaviansk 470 rebels died which was total bull crap, and proven to be wrong. In the Airport and Debaltseve the Ukrainians suffered heavy casualties and lost important strategic land, and also the strategic image of the Donetsk airport. The Ukrainian government is suppose to be taken with the grain of salt the same way the Rebel government is in terms of claims... Independent research proves out to be way better than taking the claims of any side.  And you appear to be going by Ukrainian claims. The Separatist terrorists with no support from the local population actually achieved alot by taking those objectives.

For both airport battles the claims made by both sides are similar: Ukraine lost 200 with about 300 wounded (contentious figure and should be taken with a grain of salt) and the Russians lost 800+ with about 2000 wounded. The land itself is not strategic as the Ukrainian army has line of sight over almost the entirety of the airport and the buildings themselves are practically rubble and the runway is no longer a runway. This is reflected by the fact that both sides are not willing to fight over it in its current state.

There is also a long term Ukrainian benefit to picking off experiencd Donbass commanders. Newer ones will only have experience of the current,  relatively static warfare.

They are largely irrelevant. If Russia's satellites are in trouble then Russian motor-rifle troops will be there to save the day. The Russian commanders (the ones that are doing the commanding) still have their experience while Motorola and the likes sit there and look pretty.

Russian Kontakt-1 and Kontakt-5 ERA are now less effective at defending against tandem HEAT warheads.

Where is the Kontakt-1 ERA featured in-game? I thought that was a relic of older Russian tanks.

Ukrainian tank ammunition loads have been adjusted. Oplot-M now carries APFSDS 3BM42 Mango (instead of Zubr), and T-64BV now carries APFSDS 3BM22 Zokolka (instead of APFSDS 3BM42 Mango). T-6DBV now carries 3BK18 HEAT shells instead of 3BK18M.

I don't know much about Soviet tank rounds and couldn't find any satisfactory sources on this topic. Are these changes an improvement or a downgrade to Ukrainian armor? I would appreciate it if someone could provide some specifics about each round.

FIXED: At close LOD, BMP-2M would look like a BMP-2.

I promised myself a pilgrimage to Mecca if this was fixed. This bug really bothered me for some reason.

@JUAN DEAG http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=d0e_1476032769 never mind it wasn't shot down rebels got their hands on it because it landed on their territory or whatever.

Anyways guys I'm playing a PBEM and had a 105mm from the MGS totally bust my frontal turret on my T-72B3 probably around 800 meters or more away. Did I get unlucky or is the 105 actually capable of taking out B3s from the front turret?

    Thanks fam.

Best case scenario the T-72 has 600mm of frontal armor. The M900 has 650mm of penetration.

  6. Never mind.

The United States delivered 24 AeroVironment RQ-11B Raven unmanned aircraft systems to Ukraine on 27 July, the US Embassy in Kiev said.

The package included 72 hand-launched Raven intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft and associated equipment, which was transported to Boryspil International Airport.

"Several dozen Ukrainian soldiers have already completed training on Raven unmanned aircraft system in Huntsville, Alabama," the embassy said. "[The] Raven system is part of the European Reassurance Initiative [ERI] package and on-going security assistance efforts in Ukraine."

Sanctions seem to have a law of diminishing returns -  the first round has immediate effects but a targeted population adapts quickly. Then there's a threshold where the sanction is effectively an act of war,  through its actual effect or anger at the sheer number of them.

Basically, it appears sanctions are a limited library.

The sanctions against Russia by North America, Europe, Australia, and Japan were not designed to target Russian civilian population. They were designed to target banks and the military industrial complex in an attempt to shake up the oligarchy (Putin's power base) and discourage further naughtiness on Putin's part. The sanctions are by no means extensive, so the average Russian is not exactly under much pressure, though the fall of the Ruble has stung the population slightly.

  8. There was an incident in 2014 where a BTR-4 with slat armor was ambushed by Russians and sustained several hits from an RPG-7 and various small arms fire. The vehicle was heavily damaged but was still able to carry on fighting and evacuate a wounded soldier.

Note: One rocket penetrated the unmanned turret (pictured 3rd).

I don't know if units spot enemy based on sound, but it would make some things more realistic.

Now it sometimes happens that a tank is moving in forest very near, let's say within 20 meters.
And an infantry squad does not spot it at all. Even if they cannot see it, I think it would be cool if the infantry turned towards the sound of the tank so they are ready to spot it quicker.

Sound contacts exist in the game and on occasion units will face perceived sound contacts but it is not perfect and sometimes they will not.

Another related thing which has puzzled me, not sure if it's a bug or not: if infantry has anti-tank weapons like RPG7 and the tank is too close to use it (within 10 meters), would it help if they used hand grenades? I'd think it would be better to use any weapon or run to cover rather than stay in same place and let the tank slaughter the soldiers.

The RPG has a minimum range in which the rocket will not detonate.

  10. During the last mission of the Ukrainian campaign the briefing states that it is safer for your aviation to attack all at once rather than attack piecemeal. Don't know how accurate this is but ever since I always had aircraft attack simultaneously. This is a bit anecdotal, but because of this I've experienced fewer casualties among my aircraft.

Carve off a piece of Georgia? You don't seem to know the history of the region. Osettians and Georgians have been at it long before we came to stabilize the region. Beside that fact, there are many evidence providing through the ethnic battles between them even when Georgia attacked that murders on behalf of the Georgians have taken place. But of course Russia automatically carves it off it comes to stabilize the region. But anyways poor understanding of the conflicts history plus ignorance does it's role.

    Damn! I just got roasted!

  12. 3 hours ago, VladimirTarasov said:

Georgia did not attack Russian peacekeepers in the region? And invade South Osettia first? Let's mention those minor details first. Seriously it's as if you ignore anything Russian and go by that countries claims. I'm well versed with the conflict in Georgia. Our peacekeepers were attacked first, and in response Russia invaded Georgia.

What were Russian "peacekeepers" doing on Georgian territory uninvited? Why did Russia carve of a piece of Georgia that no one but Russia recognizes? Let's mention those minor details first.

    3 hours ago, VladimirTarasov said:

Or maybe acting out of geopolitical gains, and not only limited to that, but anyways I'm getting tired of repeating the word "justified" because in your case you believe that Russians had a say in the Ukrainian crisis right up to the ousting of the government. You bring up corruption which is correct Yanukovich had a corrupt government in certain areas and it was far from perfect, but again you're still ignoring the millions of Russians (living in Ukraine) who've hadn't a say in the country they've been living in for centuries. So Russia "illegally" takes control over Crimea with the support of the people, and allows the voting process to happen, even if the voting process was rigged (let's assume it was for your case) Crimeans are totally happy with joining the Russian Federation, and this cannot be denied. Ukrainians are probably not happy with losing Crimea, but I'm very sure that Russians weren't happy for what happened in Kiev without their part in it.

So you'd be 100% chill with China just rolling in with tanks and taking Northeastern Manchuria (Amur, Khabarovsk, Primorskiy Krai, Sakhalin, and Jewish Autonomous Republic) from Russia provided that the Chinese sponsored referendum votes are only somewhat rigged and the Manchurians are fine with it?

They would only be "securing" it as you like to call it.

    Playing devils advocate here

So if Texas decided to be independent as rumours abound

Would the US accept that or would they put it down / bribe the senators or people in power opting for it?

Then Whats the difference to US states wanting independence and the "lobbying" there vs the Ukraine in Russia?

    Not much difference

Unlikely to the max as I've mentioned before.

The first amendment guarantees the right of these alleged separatists to demand, assemble, and campaign for their independence. The very second they use violence they will be crushed because the US has the right to territorial integrity in the same way Ukraine has the right to territorial integrity in the same way that all nations have the right to territorial integrity.
