  1. Thanks Accoma - I accidentally found it last night while moving an Artillery Corps (of all things!)

And with that, I was able to achieve the much coveted cut-off of the Reds to the North in front of Riga ....

Now armed with this deadly knowledge, the march resumes    ;)

PS - thanks for the MP File Strat - saw your post as I was responding to Accoma .....

Next round turned out better, with the Panzer Group getting deep penetration.

I could have went one space North instead but that still left me 1 square shy of the cut-off square near Riga.

So - at this point I am still mystified about how that Infantry Corps of yours got that distance.

I tried a number of combinations and my Infantry guys just looked at me strange when I ordered them to go that far in one turn.    :)

I looked at Motorizing one of them but apparently that puts them out of action for that turn.

I looked at upgrading my HQ and the only option there was to increase it's AA or I could replace the Leader - neither of which did anything for my marching capabilities.

Looking in the manual, I could not see anything about a Forced March option.

So - very eager to see your magic in action    .....

So - in my first game, trying to get off to a good start in the North.

Typically with Russian Front games, you want to pocket the Russians right away and mop up in order to deal with the hordes that are coming.

I tried a number of different move / attack combinations  and this is the max penetration / prep for encirclement that I could achieve.

Seems like these guys are going to be able to slip back to the East quite well as I was not able to shut the door to Riga.

My general plan is to follow up next turn and try to get a pocket going and then occupy the one town inside before trying to reduce it.

Would appreciate any advice from experienced players : Is this typical of opening play in the North? Am I missing the boat somehow and should have achieved an encirclement by the end of the first turn?

My thoughts on approach for next turn are shown by the Blue arrows ....

    Any thoughts?

  4. Thanks for the replies guys.

I had seen both of these and I am very tempted to make the purchase.

One thing though - now that SC3 seems to be aligned with another publisher, is there an article or post that states how this will affect continued development for AOC for SC2 and the ability to create a follow-up to AOC on the SC3 engine?

I already have SC Global Gold and may be interested in SC3 if there is the possibility of an AOC type module.  (I'm not a fan of Africa / Western Front - so the concept behind AOC is very appealing)

  5. Hi All,

I saw there was one positive review from a German magazine  but was wondering if anyone knew of other critic generated articles?

I could not see anything on Armchair General or the Wargamer which are my usual 2 sources ...

I am interested in this title (due to theater and scope) but gaming dollars and time are limited - so still on the fence ...

    Regards ....

  6. When I make a million dollars I will build an extra building on my property to house a playtesting facility. The playtester will be flown here under contract and housed in regal style and be at my ready use!

A sultry female voice on the PA system will announce "Mr. Severian please report to the playtesters' cigar lounge for debrieifng." I am sorry if he'd have to cut the massage short...   :D

Sultry voices and Panzers .... who could resist?  :)

Sorry about the lapse ... thought you had wrapped up the play testing as you announced the release.

I'll pause my Blunting of the Spear and shoot you a PM.

  7. Good work Marc Anton.

Update on what I posted above:

Now that my Stugs are getting up close and personal with the Red infantry instead of just sticking in the back for duels with the AT guns ... I am seeing the same thing .. crew casualties and then immobilization from small arms ... As noted by Marc - most frustrating ...

Hope BFC puts this down to address in the next patch ....

  8. No - in my previous attempt, I had some success in taking out the ATs (with the Stugs and indirect fire) and dealing with the infantry in the fields.

There is a good mix it seems between Soviet small arms and AT rifle squads in the field which pushes you to make proper use of combined arms ....

A little reduction on the AT Guns would be good though since I really depleted my Stug Ammo engaging in the long range duels (lot of misses on the dug in Guns)  .... leaving me with not enough to carry out the rest of my mission.

  9. My opinion so far ....

    - Challenging scenario that demands correct coordination of combined arms ....

    - It's on a dark Winter map (I play the theme from John Carpenter's The Thing in the background during this one - give it a try - it's great for the atmosphere ... )

    - My FO has gone completely snow blind ;)

    What's not to like?

Nothing associated with the scenario design .... need to investigate why the Winter white wash mod does not apply to one of the Mark IV models however .... As Kohlenkau suggested in PM, this may be a file name matching thing with the mod .... maybe renaming the .bmp file will fix it .... we'll see ....

  10. I have a plan ... of sorts ... the boys are on the march ...

This will be a very pleasant landscape to battle in ... snow on the ground - not a flower in sight. Dark and Wintery ... quite a relief ! (nice work on the map's look)

Just hoping my Mark IV Winter mod will kick in for the Panzers when the time comes ... otherwise could throw off the atmosphere ....

    Will let you know ...

  11. +1 on the comments above.

I wonder how much effort this would take on the BFC side?

Importing the sound bits seems easy enough but synchronizing with the animation might be a bit tough.

Now ... in my perfect world .... we also get the option to hear the initiation of the off-map ordinance as if you were directly near the source .... (perhaps by moving the perspective to a specified map edge)

Sort of a kluge? Yes ... but just imagine how immersive it could be ... (especially in RT to hear the full fury of massed Katyushas firing off before your Russian hordes rush across the battle field)

Should be a toggle - some folks would only want to hear the sound of the ordinance as it came close, impacted and maimed the intended targets .... To each their own .... ;)
