  1. I have played some scenarios with IEDs (I really like blowing up the cab)....BOOOMM!!!, but I have looked at the AAR map at the conclusion of the scenario and I can see all the locations of the other types of IEDs, ones that my units have come very near to or have even moved over. Must be duds or maybe I killed the trigger man. I dare say that had they detonated, my guys would be heaven sent for sure.

Another question about IEDs. Can US/British/NATO engineers defuse these devices or is this something more involved than what the game can handle?

  2. I have played a scenario with AH-64Ds at my disposal but it seems nothing happens when I call in a mission. I have tried all sorts of mission combinations (area/point, weight of attack, length of attack) but all I hear is the chatter and the sound of the helos overhead. However, no strikes are carried out against the target, at least not what I could see. Is this a problem or am I doing something wrong....

  3. Martin. Thank you for your assistance. We submitted a ticket per your instructions. One question though, when you say purchase another copy....do you mean another copy of the game itself? If so, how much lower than $15.00 and $20.00 respectively are you offering to customers that have already purchased the games, because I might be interested? Again, thanks for the assistance and I fully understand why you can't allow more than two activations of the same game at the same time. Otherwise, people would take advantage of you and you would not be in business very long. Take care. Chris.

  4. Good morning gents.

I have a copy of Frank Chadwick's Command Decision 2nd Edition by GDW (Game Designers Workshop). These are miniature rules for World War II and Post World War II battles. It is a complete game, still in the box (box is a little beat up from moving and time) and includes many of the Command Post Quarterly's published by GDW. It might prove useful as a reference tool (at least for CMBN and CMBN Commonwealth). I no longer have any miniatures to use with these rules and have decided to sell it. The first $35.00 gets the complete set (I want to use the money to get the British module). If you are interested, please contact me at greywulf58@gmail.com. First come, first served. Thanks, Chris.

  5. Boche. Yeah, that would work and since there is no module with the French (at least not until a future CM game), you could just forego them and say that the invasion of France was a success. A similar situation could involve a German invasion of Poland and the Russians come to their aide. Of course, since no Russian helos or aircraft are included in the current game system, it might not be as easy to do as a US/Britain vs. Germany but worth thinking about. Question. Is there any way at all to modify the stats for aircraft and off-board artillery or is that hard-coded into the game? If it wasn't then Russian ground support aircraft could be used. Wishful thinking I think. Chris.

  6. How about a modern version of WWII? In late 2013, radical elements of the Bundeswher stage a successful military coup and re-establish the old Third Reich, complete with Waffen SS brigades. In 2014, they launch an offensive against France, but this time they don't waste manpower or resources on a campaign against the Russian Federation. The United States threatens Germany with a nuclear strike if they invade Great Britain but the Russians threaten to launch a retaliatory nuclear strike if the United States does so. Before the world knows it, the Germans once again man defensive positions on the Normandy coast. And you can take it from there.............

  7. I understand that but doesn't that chew up my limit of four registrations. I make back-ups of all my software, including the games I download from BF. However, things happen on a fairly regular basis when it comes to computers; system crashes, viruses, purchasing a new computer. To re-install what I have now (base game and NATO) and then have to use two more registration numbers when I purchase the Marines and British modules, well that will eat up two more. That means that I will have used all four for the base game by the time I have everything installed. Right?

    Chris.

  8. Good morning again.

<listening to Jethro Tull (Living With The Past CD) as I write this>

Since I have learned that no more work will be done on the first generation modern Combat Mission series, I have been thinking what "could-be" in a second generation modern tactical level game.

    1) The base game with modules is a great idea and should continue with a new modern CM game but take it one step further. The modules should cover an specific period of time as well as nationalities for that era. I don't know if this idea would even be feasible but maybe something to consider.

    2) Helicopter assaults (raid on Bin Laden's compound or We Were Soldiers). It could be handled like a pre-plotted artillery mission. First you outfit your helos with either troops or weapon packages prior to starting the first turn (the placement phase) and then pick your LZs. When the helos arrive with troops, they automatically dismount and the helos fly off map to end the drop or to transport reinforcements on a later turn. It sure would be helpful when you have to get your troops to the top of big hill in a hurry. Of course, the other side would have assets that could bring the helos down.

    3) One US Air Force weapon system is the fearsome AH-130 Spectre. I know that such a weapon system would pretty much wipe out any targets it fired on but hey it sure would make your opponent's forces duck. Availability of such a mission should be very rare in normal situations but very available in Spec Ops missions.

    4) Amphibious assaults. This might be more of a mission that would be handled on an operational level. Those huge Russian hover-craft sure look like an awesome weapon platform.

    5) One idea I had for a game (simulation) was an Operational/Tactical system. You move your larger operational forces (regiments/battalions) on the larger operational map. When opposing units make contact the players have a choice to resolve the contact on the operational level or take it to the tactical level. Sort of a mega campaign generator. Again, I don't know if this could even be done but I think it could.

    6) Engineer vehicles.

I have more ideas floating around in the old (and I do mean old) brain pan. When I remember them, I'll post them (unless you want me to shut up).

    Take care all.

    Chris.

  9. Good morning.

Even though CMSF will have no further modules designed for it, I do plan to purchase the Marine and British modules at some point. My question is, when I purchase those two modules will I have to reinstall everything including the base game, the NATO module, and the patches? I've been reading were some people have run into issues with the License numbers not working. I just want to avoid this problem before it becomes a problem.

Having a grand time with CMSF and can't wait to play the full version of CMBN. Great games by a great company. Thanks BF.:D

    Chris.

  10. I have just recently purchased the base game and the NATO module. Today I learned that no more work is going to be done on the series. However, I wanted to ask a question concerning the game. In some scenarios, black smoke appears out of nowhere. This happens even if I haven't popped smoke or called in an artillery smoke mission and no enemy units have been sighted. This black smoke does not appear to interfere with LOS issues. Is this a feature I don't know about or does this sound like a graphics card issue? At the moment I am using a computer that I am slowly upgrading but haven't gotten around to upgrading the video card. It is a RADEON 9200 with 64Mb of VRAM. Just thought you might want to know about this.:)

  11. I noticed that there are several scenarios that deal with actions in and around airports. I have a question. What is an airport without airplanes, even wrecked ones? I am not sure such an object could be done for the game but would it be possible to turn say a building complex into something that might look like a plane. Maybe four level two or three connected buildings for the fuselage, two level two or three connected buildings on each side and perpendicular to the middle four buildings for the wings, and then a level six or eight and one level six on each side for the tail assembly. Now I don't know diddly about how to do graphics, much less something like this, but was just wondering if it would be possible? Chris.
