  1. I think the ITO mod is just stunning. I've played Nik Mond's Gothic Anvil scenario (and very good it is) and will wait for v2 of these QB's. Are any other scenarios/QB's available for Italy? This mod really deserves a lot more.

The Gothic Anvil scenario was very good, I love fighting battles in challenging topography, so many hiding places, some of the MGs were just murderous in their defense. Well done, I look forward to more scenarios in an Italian setting.

  2. Thanks for the specifics on the maps. If you're accepting any requests/suggestions on future ones, I'd really love to see any from the 10th Mountain Division's final campaign in early 1945: Riva Ridge, Mt. Belvedere, the final hills of the Appenines and then the breakout/pursuit into the Po Valley toward Lake Garda.

Task Force Darby and the area around Lago di Garda, I second that! But, I don't think much fighting actually happened in these last days of the war.

  3. The M249 is a great system, I never had any issues with accuracy, weight or the amount of ammo since I could use a 300 round drum, 100 round bag, or a 30 round magazine. Expending ammunition is influenced by rate of fire and available rounds but is controlled by a disciplined gunner and his squad leader. All things come to an end and I will be sad to see the M249 go, just like the M60 which was a love hate relationship.

My X-father in law was young Marine in WWII and he carried a BAR in Okinawa, he related numerous close call banzai charges that were disrupted by his BAR. I can only imagine the pucker factor.

200 round drum, dang it, old age is a bugger...

  5. When I was younger and had more time on my hands, I found it difficult find the time to play ASL. Now its just an impossibility. CM is not only more convenient (by about a thousand fold), I can play against the AI.

I'm a busy person with many demands on my time yet I play more games of CM in a year than I probably played of ASL ever.

And the Fog of War in ANY computer game is always going to be infinitely more satisfactory than in a board game. Think how much difference that makes.

PBEM via VASSAL allows me to play on my schedule and I can do a move in about 5 to 10 minutes, sometimes longer if the scenario is complicated. I keep it simple and only play SL, not ASL. Traditional board war-games are now having a mini resurgence due to VASSAL, lots of new games are coming out every year and more people are play them. Its not the 70s, but I think the games are better. It all depends on what type of gaming experience one wants.
