  1. I am reposting the above for the comprehension challenged types, emphasis mine. After rereading the terms of sale, I agree that if any assumption is to be made, then it is that after the 365 days expired and you lost your game, you would be required to repurchase, period. The assumption that you would be able to redownload in perpetuity is wishful thinking to put it mildly, really more like clueless.

igbee - I call troll because the OP and now "brian-fair-service" with zero history of activity in the community suddenly show up with their trick pony show. Go figure.

No problem. Many players are either lurkers or simply don't post. It's very possible this user was just frustrated or angry so the user would not have a post count. Just something to think about.

I have been a member for a while now yet have posted only a handful of times. Does this make me a troll?

  2. Well my friend, there are probably many BFC customers who didn't buy a digital copy. What you are then saying is that someone who bought their game digitally is to receive preferential treatment if their game is damaged or lost over someone who bought a hard copy. "I got the game digitally because I'm suave and debonaire, therefore I'm entitled to a lifetimes worth of downloads. You got your game as a hard copy so if something happens to it you are out of luck because only hillbillies living in the mountains buy hard copies these days."

From a sales standpoint, there is absolutely no difference between a hard copy and a digital copy as far as BFC is concerned. The game is the same no matter which way you purchased it. The only difference is the way in which the game was delivered to you.

Funny I didn't pick up on this "suave" thing.

As its been already stated and clearly you over looked it, BF could easily setup a BT download with a private tracker. I am going to guess that many members would be willing to help.

This would allow both DVD users and DOWNLOAD users the same access. I know this might be a hard concept for you to understand. By not offering an alternative it in fact looks like a minor money grab. Its also been stated that companies smaller do not charge you to re-download your purchased game.

BF needs to get paid or none of us get games we want. I'm simply not sure what is so hard to understand when it comes to the many possible alternatives that cost no money....

The File Repository... Charge you to re-download your product but offer unlimited downloads on their own Repository... Hmmmm

  3. I have mine backed up in three different places. I did loose my CMSF module sin a HD crash and had to pay $5..which really didn't bother me as it was my fault..I should have backed them up in more than one place.

To compare BF to EA a multi million dollar company is silly indeed. BF is a small developer without the resources that EA will have.

For anyone who bemoans $5 because they didn't read up on the terms and conditions and didn't back it up on either a USB stick of a CD even then I have no sympathy for them. What other purchase can you buy that if you loose it you can go to the shop and demand another one??? They'd show you the door..they certainly wouldn't let you get another one for a fraction of the price. Yes Steam and Gamersgate have a download forever policy which is cool but it doesn't mean that all other developers regardless of size have to follow that example. I really see no problem with how BF go about and I for one as grateful I didn't have to buy the modules at full price and ti was only $5.

Graviteam don't actually publish their games and if you bought from Matrix it can be a pain getting it back. Also the next DLC from them is hi res textures of a few vehicles so come on now thats hardly generous is it?

Finally BF aren't ogres..if the game failed to download a couple of times when you first bought it I'm sure to god they'd wave the $5 fee. Only after a year does it come into effect. Over a year you have plenty of time to back it up on as many different devices you want. It isn't hard and really it's laziness why people don't do it on the whole. The internet can get really depressing when you see people moaning and getting all up tight over $5...

I think you miss the point. This is not so much about $5 as the principle. The OP had the game installed and clearly said his BACKUP FAILED.

If the OP is being honest and I see no reason to call someone a liar unless you have something, even on line. The customer did what he was supposed to do. BACKUP the download.

Why is this such a hard concept for some of you to get? Also, as has already been pointed out. BF has options for allowing a paying customer to download the game again. BT is useful. BF could take it a step further by having an allow list. I accept bandwidth is costly but options do exist.

  4. Well said c3k, I would just add troll to complete the profile. I want to thank the OP also for a good laugh. It is incredibly amusing to see such a pathetic, incompetent creature. Generally the first instinct is to help the feeble, but in this case I think it is best to just let them sink.

Why is the OP a troll?

He clearly said his backup failed. He could have gone about it in a different way for sure. Its obvious the user is angry or frustrated. That should be fairly obvious...... Except to maybe you. Calling anyone pathetic or incompetent I'm sure is against the terms of posting. However, I am sure this will be allowed as these forums tend to be caustic in nature anyhow.

  5. No, a poor way to handle it would be to tell you that your download period expired and you have to buy the game new at full price. The $5 fee we charge for bandwidth is something we do exactly because we do not want to have people stranded without a game they paid for. It offsets the cost for redownloads for another year, and it means that we do not have to charge every customer a higher price.

Lastly, there is the "Download and Mail" option as well, which gets you a disc (or the "Mail only" option which gets you a disc but no download).

Please do not confuse us with pure online storefronts or multiplayer clubs. Unlike some of those, we do not offer infinite digital storage for the games you buy from us. They have to, because without that service there wouldn't be much else that they do. But we are selling you a game, not an online service, and once the item you purchased is delivered, be it by mail or online, the transaction is completed as far as we are concerned. If the dog eats your disc you will be in the same situation as if it eats your backup, and while we do support fans who bought from us and are in the unfortunate situation to have lost their game, we do need to offset our cost in some way (and btw, the aforementioned storefronts and online clubs do, too, just in a less obvious way).

    Martin

PS. What some people do if they are afraid of losing their backup is to use Cloud storage services. Many are free and will allow you to store your setup file online for your perusal.

Battlefront Repository. Many of these files are in the 100+MB range.

  6. I did get a e-mail response from support about the missing infantry bug with Windows 8. I will say that they at least get back to their customers and follow up. It sounded like 1.11 would be out within a month. If this is really the case one wonders what this means for the 2.0 upgrade.

Support thanks for the follow up, I don't like the wait. It looks to be fixed and I would prefer a hot fix, but it is what it is. Still unable to play CM-N.

  7. Why? Right now FI is the hottest horse in the stable. BN is a little bit yesterday's news, if you know what I mean. (Okay, that's somewhat of an exaggeration, but there's a grain of truth in there if you are willing to look for it.)

    Michael

    1) New is not better.

    2) Last time I checked there are plans to release new modules for BN.

    3) Missing soldiers bug in BN. Not fixed. Guess I will have to pay for a 2.0 update.

    4) No communication for the most part as of late.

    5) Activation limits without the ability to unlicense, not sure who thought this would be a good idea. Just recently changed a hard drive with ghosting software and had to use another license. Protect your software, don't give the screw to the paying customer.

Need I go on?? It's great that we are going to be getting games and modules faster, but that also comes with a negative.

  8. Well, reinstalling your OS from scratch on the same hardware will also use up a license.

    Just to be precise.

This thing BFC is doing irks me no end. You see, backups. Sure, if you actually restore a backup to bring back your old PC after a HD crash then you don't use up one of BFC's crazy licenses. But what's the point? For most people these days an OS install from scratch is the better alternative since it's a fresh install with new OS/security patches, no fragmentation, no old registry garbage and smart people do most things these days in a web browser anyway. I really hate that individual small companies take actions that go against this.

And that doesn't begin to cover your right to use the game for an unlimited time (you bought a license for use with no time limit, you didn't rent it for a time), a right that is being taken away by this. The moment the licensing servers are down for whatever reason there's no more play unless you do an Egyptian mummy like preservation of your "BFC dedicated PC".

Of course the actual pirate don't have to deal with any of this since they never see a trace of the DRM.

I understand your frustration with the DRM - http://www.battlefront.com/community/showthread.php?t=105605 Demo works, full game with DRM does not. No time line for a fix as of yet. I have to boot back my old image when I want to play. Their support department responds quickly and left me with the impression that activations can be added. Still over a weekend of Holiday, I could be left not playing my game because of this.

I agree they need to protect their software but let us reclaim the activation like most software allows.

  9. Many thanks to ALL scenario designers who worked on the CW module. I have played through a few and they are absolutely amazing so far. They've given me hours of fun. They are much improved over the stock scenarios, particularly the largest ones which seem to feature much more open terrain. Great for long range tank battles. Breaking the Panzers was good but I'm loving Colossal Crack, and considering its size it plays like a dream! It's nice to see the largest scenarios being offered. They are stunning and in my opinion it's what CM was designed for.

I could not agree more! Thanks for all your hard work!

  10. Not sure if intended but this is a somewhat odd suggestion, seeing as they are recovering from apparently multiple hacker attacks right now. One of the reasons we do not run a matchmaking server is because it's a resource pit to keep it running, secured and efficient. We prefer making games :)

Let me start off right from the start by saying. I enjoy your products. I generally purchase all your games and modules. A company that has as few releases as BF can afford and should take this attitude. You simply cannot afford to take this gamble. Especially if you think the number of multi-player games would in fact be low as you claim.

While I am disappointed in the delay of Conflict of Heroes. It is one of my favorite board games. The move to PC looks outstanding. The match making service while involved and costly, will allow this product to grow and sale. Furthermore, Matrix games and Slitherine have merged. The amount of titles that are released is much larger. Almost all of these titles have mutli-player options. COH is going to be the flagship test product. I expect many of the current titles and all new titles to take advantage of this service going forward.

You have your business model and reasons for not giving us good matchmaking and they have a business model as well. I don't see the need to call attention to their issue of a beta product. Having been a long time lurker, I get it, you don't care about the multi-player portion of your product. Go make your games. In the end if its good product I will make a purchase.

I for one am glad someone is going in this direction. As a customer they will get more of my money as a result of this service. Hell, I would even pay for the service itself because its such a pain to play war and strategy games generally over the web these days.

  11. I would say this game is not for everyone. Might not be for you.

I love the history of WW2 and have played strategy games for a very long time now.

This game is very hard to get into and could really benefit from a real tutorial especially if the company wants to reach out to new users.

You are always going to get those on every board that are very helpful and those that are not. We are lucky in that most here want to help those newcomers learn the game.

You have to stay with it though no matter how hard or frustrating the game is.

  12. I don't give a sh1t if I'm called a fanboy either..if your going to be a fan of something then why not the best?

Clearly not a great attitude for bringing back some of the older players.

The best? I agree this is the best thing going for War gaming currently.

People do hate change and those that skipped SF will have these same types of issues and gripes that took place when SF was released.

Take a chill pill and be patient, growing the community is in the best interest of everyone.

  13. Problem here is some fan boys are behaving like other game forums rather then taking the time to explain like umlaut has done.

I agree with you to a degree its like your first car nothing will compare to that the new car does not smell or feel right and there are things you hate about it, or wished the old car had.

There are a few things I am struggling with no armour covered arc, hunt on tank that stop at the slightest movement and the split personality 60mm mortar, superhero in direct role and woeful in indirect role.

But I still suggest battling through it still the best game on the market, even if it does not have that old car smell

    Well said.

  14. Unless we get a demo today, I am not sure how we would see the release this week. I hope to be wrong but at this point it looks like yet another week without a release.

You don't have to give a specific date BF. Simply posting quickly no release this week, that would of been just fine.

Missed the end of April and in the Mac is back post, 14 - 21 days looks to be missed as well.

Simply let us know if there is no release this week, its really not that hard.

  15. Does it matter - I am sure BF are just trying to be nice and try and give us some kind of realistic date ... if they had just said "it will be july" a couple of weeks ago we wouldnt even be having the conversation. And they could then release it when they like and if they deliver it early everyone thinks there are great. If you didnt want your money in their hands then you shouldnt have pre orderted. That is after all the point of a pre order. Really - I undedrstand the frustration - but the bitterness toward BF is unwarranted.

    I don't see the bitterness.

Its obvious that there are those on the boards that cannot for some reason allow anyone to have anything negative at all to same about BF.

  16. "maybe they are being extra specially careful this time to ensure the released product is as stable as can be."

In a far more extreme example, I'm sure the folks making Duke Nukem have been thinking the same thing.

We haven't even seen a demo yet. I'm betting it'll be closer to July 4th than May 15th for a release. The lack of a demo really concerns me since if its as close to done as they say it is, a demo should've been out weeks ago.

I am very concerned as well, if we do not see a demo today or very early next week my guess would be another week without a release. Every day is getting further away from the end of April. I pre-purcahsed and was willing to wait. However, if this turns into the end of May, I will be disappointed that my money has been in their hands with no product for a much longer time period. Now I know time frames are not absolute but the lack of communication is also telling to me.
