  1. I can't quite imagine two full infantry companies and a couple tank platoons all chattering away at once as the enemy first comes into view. Talk about data overload!

As to zooming out to select then zooming back in, if you don't want to play that way don't play that way. Seriously - Stay on ground level or level 1 and move by '+' comand jumping from unit to unit. If you combine that with a high FOW setting and realtime play even the simplest scenario will give to a run for the money. You'll probably have more fun playing than the rest of us 'cheater's hovering godlike over the battlefield.

You'd stomp me in RT if I played and ground level, while you hovered above your units.

You bring up a good point about info overload. Imagine being able to choose between (w/a hotkey perhaps) a platoon level radio/msg box and a company level msg box, like changing frequencies on the radio.

  2. OK,in the first quote you attack BF and say you make more money then BFC while taking a SH*T in the morning. That was about four pages back, then in the post I quoted above, you say you want to see if you can afford it?I don't really know how to take you.I thank you for the response VIA pm,I read it after I wrote this so I edited this thread for that reason,I just think you need to look deep within yourself and try to find some kind of Peace.Stop being a hater.

I think you misread me. I meant by, "whether I can afford it or not" as "It doesn't matter if I can afford it or not."

Make no mistake. I can afford it.

  3. I agree, unless they didn't like modern warfare... I am not fond of modern warfare, but still really enjoy the game... I like CM:A even better. I really look forward to building scenario's in CM:BN... After it comes out how but a game HintJ... only thing is I am an old dude and have to play WEGO.... let me know :)

Sounds like fun! But I don't plan to buy CMBN until it has been out awhile. I want to make sure it is up to speed, and whether I can afford it or not, I'm waiting for a price drop.

I got burned on the initial release of CMSF, and among my various character defects, I collect and hold on to grudges.

I am looking at CMA, though. I'm having a fun time w/the demo. I just wish there was a text file that I could easily edit all those Russian names into something more easily recognizable.

  4. Apart from the different merits of the two games, I have no idea why people are seemingly surprised by CMBN being CMSF modded for WW2. What did you expect CMBN would be then?

I am in no way surprised that CMBN looks like a WW2 mod of CMSF. In fact, that's exactly what I think it will be. I don't have an issue w/that.

There's another thread about "old timers" returning. If they didn't like CMSF, why would they like CMBN? I mean it is basically the same game w/WW2 units.

  5. No, never really imported much, I did like imported beer and single malt scotch before I stopped drinkin. Got a couple of imported assault rifles for hunting. I like Montecristo's and Arturo Fuentes from the Dominican, prefer Maduro Wrappers and 48 ring size (I guess they are imported). Looking for a Pinzgauer to restore (Don't think they are made in the USA). Also been playing war games for 41 years (some imported), but a broker.... I dont think so...I have been retired 2 years... why you ask anyway???

Thought maybe I know you, one of "THOSE" people in your area. Well, closer to Charlotte, anyway.

  6. great idea. No need to include an error factor IMO. Consider the ground christened before the attack anyways. Or its a game feature because the human player can't see all parts of the map and give orders at the same time to all units simultaneously.

The most successful PC games are those which clearly relay game information to the player. Auditory information is seldom exploited to its full potential. And no, WW2 squadlings did not have motorolas so its a figurative tool used in place of a soldier saying "hey sarge, that's 2nd squad over there getting zapped from the farmhouse"

I watched a bunch of AARs on youtube, and I was struck that the player was always zooming out and deselecting his units to understand what was happening.

I don't want to play that way, and a msg box would be a great tool to help experience real time closer to the ground.

  7. HAPPY EASTER... and I still think PC:K SUCKS.....

But who cares as I am just one of THOSE people...

    Are you an import broker?!

I bought the first PC and found it woefully lacking. The second game, PCK, was a bit of an improvement, but still very rough.

Around six months ago, I had some free time, and I was looking though my old games, found PCK, and I thought I'd give it another shot. Then I decided to check for a recent patch, and that's when I discovered PCO.

Honestly, all the improvements the PC team made should really make for a great game. I believe the improvements have been fueled by dislike for CMx2. Personally, I don't understand that, since CMx2 is a pretty damn good game.

I haven't anticipated a game more since OFP! Yes, CMBN should be good, but it looks like CMSF w/a WWII mod. PCO has an open structure, as opposed to CMx2, so you should have more flexibility w/the system if someone forgets to put in Panzerfausts, or something like that. Also, there's no bizarro DRM.

But ultimately, PCO and CMBN are two totally different games. PC is intentionally more of a game than a simulation. It uses dice rolls and charts for spotting and hitting, etc. CMx1 fans will might be initially thrown off by the different system.

If you want to scream "IT SUCKS!" or whatever, fine.

  8. Misunderstanding of a beavis and butthead joke does not explain your obvious dislike of the Jewish people.

You're right. It is out of line. I kind of am pulling people's legs here, and I don't mean to offend. Sorry. It is kind of silly and only works online. In real life, trust me, you would probably have no problems dealing w/me; however, I do find it weird that if anyone says anything that BF shouldn't like, people appear out of the woodwork attacking the criticizer.

And yes, to be honest, deep inside, I distrust Jews.

  9. Dude you insulted the whole mesage board in your flame or did you forget that. Hell I am still wondering what you meant when you posted this.

Take some of that oodles of cash you make when you take your next dump and hire someone else who isn't such a pissy little spritetard to write your posts. heh heh I said spritetard.. heh heh Beavis you dumba**!!

    Kiss my ass!

You want bring the Jews into this? I don't think thats really the problem here, unless you are one of them!

  10. Currently, if a player wants to play CMx2 in RT, he should stay above the action (zoomed out) so he can see everything.

If we had a message box for units withing C2 (perhaps simulating radio chatter), then we could play the game constantly at ground level and *try* to understand what is going on from the messages.

    A better example:

If I'm playing real time, focusing on one point of the map, and something happens on the other side of the map, then I get a message saying (for example) "this is unit XYZ we are under fire" or "we see armor coming" or whatever is happening.

Only units within the C2 loop should send in the msg box.

This way, a player could play a game in the clostrophobic (sp?) atmosphere of wonder what in the hell is going on from a ground level point of view!

Message boxes are a standard in many RTS's. In Wego, where it isn't so important.

  11. Hehe... he said spritetards... hehehe :D

Seriously, that's pretty clever. If you didn't come up with that yourself, Gundolf, I encourage you to take credit for it anyway.

    Steve

You think that's clever? Insulting a classic game and encouraging others to do so also? At least the Matrix guys don't actively put down other games.

No wonder this message board is so arrogant. If life were a Combat Mission game, Steve would have a little picture picture in the lower left, and the leadership would be -2.

I bet when I take a sh*t in the morning I'm making more money than you. I'm paying cash for PC:O (I could get this game for free) and I will also buy CMN, but only when it is on Ebay for $5.

No offense; I hope your game is a success, because the genre certainly needs it, but please drop the attitude.

  12. Yeah, that was a great feature in steel beasts when playing it as an RTS. Let you keep track of the battle without having to carefully watch every unit to see if their status changed. Had voiced audio too so you didn't have to watch the message box. Would be very handy for real time players.

Though if you factor in C2... just what unit is the player? In my opinion you seem to play every leader, so in theory C2 limits on these messages would be a bit odd. Or least make it as an option separate from difficulty for people who want to try and play from just the company commanders perspective or whatever.

It doesn't matter what unit is the player. The message bar could represent the local radio chatter--all units w/a radio could access it.

  13. I'd like to stay at ground level, and have a msg box simulating a radio/C2 loop telling what is going on!

CMx2 already has an awesome C2 feature, so if a unit is within the C2 loop, let him post messages in a msg box to simulate friendly relayed messages! For example, "We are under fire! Enemy armor spotted grid XXX!" etc. Yes, soldiers often suck at reading maps, so put in an error factor on the location. Also consider suppression levels, and if there is even time to relay a message or a grid.

Please make it so that I can play the game near ground level, and let my paranoid imagination run wild of what is happening!

Of course, keep it a Combat Mission game so I can change my point of view to any unit in the game on the fly.

The best feature (IMO) of CMx2 is the relative spotting/C2. Please use it for more than just spotting/morale.

  14. I feel the camera controls could not be better, once you learn how to use it properly, they are very powerful. The only improvement I would make is that the lowest to the ground camera view be lower.Currently the lowest camera view is just above their heads while standing.I would like a prone or ground view. You would have a much better pespective as to why a unit does not have a los to an enemy or building.

Yes, a slightly lower view would be nice, but overall, I think the CMSF camera is one of the best. (I'm assuming the CMBN camera will be the same.)

Especially good is the mouse button turning.

If I'm not mistaken, don't Sins of a Solar Empire and the Total war games use cameras that rotate around focal points? Do some people prefer that style because it is faster to manipulate?

I think the CMx2 camera is more free. For example, I can occupy a empty point in space and magnify without moving the camera. The zoom in most RTS style cameras actually moves the camera closer to the focal point--I don't like that as much.
