  1. Sorry to keep harping but the AI is one of the most important things in a wargame. While it's nice to have extra features like being able to make 3D units, having a proper AI is far more important. Multiplay is nice for those who want it but the majority of wargamers play solo only. This game has so much potential but some basics still don't work properly or we don't know how well they work. Aircraft is one of them. Aircraft carriers is another. Using paratroops is another. Sending injured units back for repair in a timely manner is another. Plus some that I can't think of offhand. Not being able to make new 3D units doesn't matter. But an AI that doesn't function properly is a game breaker. The game came out last November. All that AI stuff should be working properly by now. This is getting very frustrating. I'd like to suggest to Brit, in the nicest way, that he concentrates on getting the different parts of the AI working right before working on other facets of the game.

    I can only agree. This game has alot of potential, but the AI is letting it down. I keep updating this game and really only give it another go if there has been some form of AI update. The AI need to be able form alliances, accept alliances once you cosy up to them, and alllll of the other tactical actions they should be able to do. I have not been able to get an AI to do this at all yet.

    I know this is more difficult than just requesting it - I would agree that all other development should take a backseat to this hugely critical area. The goal in my mind would be a civilization type AI...with roughly configurable AI/Personalities that can engage with the player both tactictly AND strategicly (treaties and trade). This game would be GOLD if this were possible. Sorry to go off topic a bit!

  2. Okay, I tried updating the game on my computer (full version 1.01.8164, and demo version 1.01.8163), and it worked fine. Are you doing an update from 1.01.8164 or an earlier version? If it's an earlier version, then I'll try to go back that that version and do an update.

    Thanks! Well I just downloaded the EOSinstaller again to another location, just in case. reinstalled same deal.

    Version im gettng is the virgin 1.01

    I could see that two people were in chat, just could not update or go to the "downloads" section or log in my account.

  3. Very strange. I was really expecting you to write back and say that it was working for you now; that it was just a temporary problem. The files are on the game's website. Can you access www.empiresofsteel.com? And one other question: are you running the full version of the game or the demo? Do you have an old version of the demo? I was just thinking recently that there -might- be a bug with the old version of the demo getting updates. You can either grab the latest demo, or I can make some changes on the server-side to avoid this problem. Let me know if you're running a demo version that you downloaded a long time ago.

    Well when it started I uninstalled and redownloaded the full client from battlefront. Reinstalled and same problem.

    After reading your post I uninstalled again and installed the latest demo - just in case.

    Same problem - could not connect to server (when hitting update).

    Im starting to think maybe there is spyware in my network flooding... nothing else seems ot be affected. Really strange. No firewall on. : (

  4. Sounds like the server was down* when you tried to connect to it. The updates and log-ins don't require any port forwarding. There's not much that can go wrong with them other than trying to connect when the server isn't responding.

    * or maybe it just took too long to respond, which would look similar to the server being down.

    Its really odd. Nothing has changed my end and im still getting the problem.

  5. I have not been able to grab the latest update or log in with my username... I have reinstalled with the same message when I try to update "could not connect to server".

    Im pretty sure I did not have a port forward on for EoS before.... is there a problem?

  6. Ive had a few glitches since this new version, the major one being when I select "large continents" for a new game - somtimes I get "small islands" instead.

    starting a new game again seems to fix it...

    Also I had one new game start where the unit build time was a wierd figure like 1.99999$ or somthing like that - which didnt progress. Only happened the once so far...

  7. From my experience, the AI doesn't attack until it starts running into conflict situations. It tries to stay neutral until it is forced into war. If you want to fight the AI, then attack it. Once you do, you'd better be ready to fight. I always wait until I'm ready for the fight, but I don't always get the chance to make that decision.

    Maybe Brit needs to add a type of AI that is aggressive early on to please those who like to be rushed. :-)

    AI on Veteran difficulty seem to attack early (on Elite they certainly do!). Especially if you grab alot of resources early. However there attacks peter out fairly soon and then stagnate in there resources rush. Deffnately work to be done with the AI expansion and diplomatic abilities...

    ..but tehy are more lively on higher settings.

  8. This may have been brought up before --- territorial zones for your cities.

    IE enemy units cannot move within those bounds unless they declare war or are an ally (Like Civ series).

    At the moment it seems rather easy to just load up your units on an enemies land mass, and THEN declare. Kind of takes the risk out of an amphibious attack. It also would bring up new strategic issues like blocking you out of an ocean or land mass forcing you to move to war or alliance.

  9. Would just like to say great game, I have been waiting for the demo for ages now!

    Im not sure if this has been brought up yet but its one of my big gaming gripes of ALL TIME - you MUST have an option to disable the music (not saying its bad, its just, I want the option!). Unless ive missed the option somewhere I couldnt find it....

    And the other thing being the AI... at the moment Ive stopped playing due to the length of time the AI takes to complete its moves, I really hope this can be improved as I envisage I will be playing single player most the time. Also , as has been mentioned in previous threads the AI needs to be able to respond to diplomacy a little better, establishing alliances with other AI players from time to time would be great!

    I think if the AI can be ironed out this will be a classic little pocket strategy game and my congratulations on pursuing such a project in a industry of souless 3d RTS/ shooters and crapo console money spinners. well done!
