  1. Well there were only a handfull of SS in the US sector so they're better in the Commonwealth modual where the SS units were concentrated. The FJ will be missed but it's better to have a more complete Whermacht to launch the family.

    I agree.

As much as I would have liked to have at least FJ's in the initial release I do understand their grand plan with regards to selling their product. Heck I would do the same.

And as you say, if it is done more thoroughly this way then I for one will have no qualms in parting with $100's for all the great stuff they are going to make.

Just great to be talking about Normandy again after so many years...

A bone or two would be nice!

  2. Unless of course they just decide that Paratroopers of all nationalities becomes its own module (along with probably a Market-Garden Campaign).

If we were going to make every branch of the armed forces a different module then we would have a pretty ordinary game until all modules are released...

The Germans were masters of combined arms, so I would be somewhat dissapointed if the base Normandy game only has the US vs Eastern Europeans forced to fight for the Germans (in other words - sub par units).

Having Fallschirmjäger and maybe a few basic SS units would be just fine.... as well as wehrmacht of course!

Where is the fun in being overrun by Yanks. :D

  3. Normandy will be great, but the real fun will come with the commonwealth module...

Re-creating all the Canadian/British clashes with the SS around Caen is going to make me lose a hell of alot of sleep...

Having said that - my namesake's division - '17th SS Panzergrenadier - Götz von Berlichingen' (reconnaissance battalion I believe) fought against the US 101st at Carentan on the 11th on June, 1944.

So does that mean there will be some SS units included in the initial base game? Or does the base game not necessarily mean everything that faced the US forces?

Fallschirmjäger would have to be a dead certainty to make it into the base Normandy game being that they were opposite the Americans from the get-go at Carentan etc... etc...

  4. Technically we probably still could, but we will probably push it into 2010 so we can enjoy the Holidays without pressure to release and/or support. And by "we" I mean us poor saps that have to make the thing, not you lucky buggers who just get to play it :D

    Steve

I assume we will be getting some sort of bone before Xmas then.

DOh! there goes a Christmas present idea... More so would have been great given that I have time off work then....

  6. With little to no bone having been thrown our way other than the Tiger I pic, I seem to recall that there would be an update or pic around about now!!!

With the projected release date slated for late December (hopefully) it would be nice to get the ball rolling.

Is the new foliage a vast improvement? - hopefully so from what ive seen from aerial views ive seen of CMSF - although I do realise the issues inherent with using 2D RPC's as

I do alot of 3D modelling (Architecture) myself.

Onyx or Xfrog trees in Combat Mission would look insane...!!! having said that, the game would need 8gb of RAM to run with a forrest on it... Although I have a editor which allows the polygons to be reduced thus allowing more.

  7. I hope your wrong about that! Im not going to pay for a "Normandy" module to only be playing one third of the invasion forces. As I understood it the first Module of the ww2 games would be the Normandy theatre so we should get ALL troops(and equipement) that fought in the battles for those beaches.

The first WW2 game is set in Normandy - Yes! But there are modules to go with this. If you pile everyone in in the base game there is hardly any point to BF putting out the modules is there?

Besides, the Poms will still be licking their wounds after losing the Ashes to Australia again - they wont be ready to come in until the 1st module..... haha

I dont mind paying for the modules, as Steve stated we will in all probablility be getting more things to play with overall with it being done this way...

Follow up CORE games are styled around Market Garden / Ardenne etc...i believe.....or should i say hope....:D

  8. Hope you guys dont forget the British. Would be awesome if there are churchills in the game. I live in Portsmouth where the invasion was deployed from and we have a churchill crocodile and sherman outside the D day mueseum :).

Cant wait for a real time ww2 combat mission. As much as I love the old ones turn based play always gets to me after a while on the larger levels.

The Poms are in the follow-up module (commonwealth forces) if i remember correctly... :)

  9. As you say, some of the captured equipment would be fun (not to mention realistic) to use.

I thought I remember reading one of Steve's posts a while back that we would get a Normandy update coinciding with the anniversary of one of the allied breakout operations...!!! Its now August :D

Although I cant wait for the Normandy title, I do see that from a business point of view it would be silly to go crazy plugging it, only having just released the Brit module...

Any bones due to be thrown our way this month...???
