  1. Okay thanks, maybe I'll try the demos first, Steam also has a refund policy if the game doesn't work.
  2. Please forgive me if this question has already been asked many times, but it seems that the promised release date for Battle of Normandy on Steam never came true. Has it been delayed, or actually cancelled, and is anything known about the release date at this point? Thanks for the help.
  3. Thanks, I appreciate it. Btw, do you know if Battle For Normandy is supposed to be released onto Steam soon? I saw a video on youtube that said it was coming to Steam, but it doesn't appear to be.
  4. Thanks for the responses, very helpful, I appreciate it. I am interested in getting "Cold War" but the system requirements say "Windows 10" on Steam. On this website it says Windows 7. Before I buy the game on Steam, I just want to make sure this Windows 10 requirement won't be prohibitive. Perhaps it is more of a suggestion then a requirement.
  5. I owned the original Combat Mission Beyond Overlord game a long time ago and really loved it. Now I'm looking to get a new Combat Mission game but have concerns over what I can run on my computer. I have a Dell Inspiron 620 with Windows 7 and Intel HD 2500 Onboard Graphics. It says I'm running Directx 11 but mostly I can only run games that use Directx 9 Which Combat Mission games can I run? Thanks in advance for the advice.
  6. Combat Mission doesn't let you control individual squad members, and one icon can represent 12 different soldiers.
  7. Thanks, I'll check that one out. Others have suggested a game called Silent Storm that looks interesting, as well as a few others such as Assault Squad and Battle Academy 2.
  8. I only own the original Combat Mission: Beyond Overlord, but it looks like Battlefront has had many new releases of Combat Mission since then, including this Battle for Normandy. What major innovations have changed in these newer versions, besides improved graphics? I barely have mastered the original and found it rather difficult to succeed at, but not sure if this was my fault or because the game was designed to be difficult. Is Beyond Normandy more intuitive or does it have better gameplay or some reason that would make it a must-buy for a Beyond Overlord owner? Thanks in advance for your comments.
  9. 1st person shooters are definitely a different category all-together, I would classify that as action, not strategy. There are games like Company of Heroes that are in the spirit of games like Ambush, but they are real time strategy, not turn-based. Some similar games that have been suggested are Jagged Alliance and Battle Academy. X-Com is a great squad game, but not WW II. Welcome any other suggestions!

  11. I'm wondering if you war game fans can help me with a question. I used to have Ambush and Squad Leader as board games when I was a kid. I have CMBO, and I enjoy it, but there are no individual soldiers. I enjoyed controlling a squad and there were also RPG elements to that game, since soldiers could survive and return in other campaigns. I am wondering if there a pc game that is squad based war combat and similar to those squad boardgames? Thanks in advance.

  13. What exactly did they improve with the new versions? The graphics look to be about the same, even Shock Force looks similar to CMBO... Is it still possible to find e-mail opponents for CMBO? Anyhow, I'm sure I'll have more questions later, as I try to learn this game... still having trouble mastering the basics, like how to use a spotter, tank tactics, where to put a machine gun unit, etc.. Thanks, Wahooka
  14. Thanks for the replies... So what information should I pay attention to in the unit description, and in the game manual in general? Its a fairly dense game manual filled with all kinds of information, most of which doesn't make you feel like you've learnt anything at all
