  1. I imagine General Chaos was also a very picky eater as a child- pushing his food around the plate and whining that it was too hot, then after playing with it for an hour, complaining that it was cold, that one food was touching another, that there was too much of what he didn't like or too little of what he liked.

I'm glad I don't work in a job that requires dealing with customers, as I'd end up going Postal! Even when the complainers are a tiny minority, the self-pity, drama and energy they put into it makes one drown out a thousand pleased customers!

  2. I can see a day where the retail store is a thing of the past and all of our shopping is done in the home with a delivery service.

I am much at that stage myself it is rare I go to the shops, even for groceries.

The same with me- I consider shopping in a store to be cruel and inhuman punishment! Especially when it comes to birthday and Christmas shopping, I'd lose my mind if I couldn't do it on my computer at home!

Not being stuck behind some moron who is standing in the middle of an aisle, talking on their cell phone, with no consideration for those trying to get through, or listening to spoiled brats scream at the top of their lungs to get their way, or stand in line to check out, only to see all the other lines moving quickly, while yours is at a stand still... the withering of retail stores may mean lost jobs, but I can't feel bad about that!

    :D

  3. I concur. I flew on Aluminum Overcast a few years ago. Some of the best money I ever spent, and I've never once regretted it. It really is a once in a lifetime experience that I'll never, ever forget.

Same here! I got to fly in Nine 'O' Nine- in the back of my mind was the question of how safe it was going up in an ancient WW2 bomber, without the modern emergency exits, etc., but getting the chance to fly in a B-17 was worth it and I'd love to go up again! I figure you're still in more danger just driving to the airport than going up in one!

  4. Steve, I think this situation is very much like when a wife is physically abused by her husband and she calls the police, but when they arrive, she changes her mind and gets mad at the police for arresting her abusive husband.

It's the "I'm allowed to say anything about my guy, but you have no right to say anything." syndrome.

  5. I think the main problem here is senility, I mean, most average players of CMx1 must by now be over 200 years old at LEAST, surely? Maybe the old-timers are just finding it a little difficult to adapt, you can't teach and old dog new tricks and all that.

"Depends" are the way to go! No more worrying about geezer-bladder and having to rush off to the bathroom every 10 minutes and breaking the flow of the game!

    :D

  6. Indeed!

I am not sure that there are levels within levels for the bocage. So the bocage is either a big bocage or the smaller one. So the time it takes to destroy one might just be a constant rather than saying "This bocage has 9000hp and this one has 7456" within the same tile.

That is a good point. It real life, each piece of bocage would be different- not some standard. For a game, there's got to be a bit of abstraction, but in real life they could find some good weak spots in tough places, yet in some there might not be anyplace that would be easier to get through. The combination of various plants of various ages, thickness, steepness of the banks, height, etc. would all vary to some degree.

In the game I figure that if they get a good average for the time it took to break through, that's good enough.

  7. Well historically, American troops would take off their socks, slip the demo charges into them with the fuse hanging out and coat them with axle grease that is conveniently laying around all over Normandy. This would create a perfect "sticky bomb", and many sockless Joe's.

Of course, it was quickly stopped when the Germans complained that it was a major violation of the Geneva Convention, as those socks, worn for days or weeks, in warm, damp conditions, were somewhere between a bio and chem weapon.

  8. Behold the vision of Nostradamus!!!

    :D

"Nostradamus prophesied in Century 10, Quatrain 67: "combattre la mission au-delĂ  de Normandie" shall rise from the battlefront on the day of the second full moon of Spring in the year of the "laden bin" collapsing.

Thus it must be a release date of May 17th."

  9. I've followed all the suggestions on here- including things like turning off my Avast AV before installing and playing, I've tried installing in the default position, Programx86, and so many other options.

I've spent hours just trying to get the thing to play- I've got so many games and they all work without a problem. I just can't think of even one more thing I could try...

  10. Interesting. I didnt think it would be possible. I would think that so much of WW2 history would be scrutinized that it would be hard to take liberties to make history, fiction. (Maybe I'm too much the purist)

Or is this what they call "faction"?

How do Sharra's books read? Or at least, how does "Steel Wave" read?

Sharra follows in his father's footsteps- he did Killer Angels, which was made into the big Gettysburg movie. They take all the major facts, but speculate on things the leaders might have said and done, that haven't been recorded and add in some fictional ordinary men to put you into the action at all the best times and places- but doing a fairly good job of feeling like it's sticking true to history.
