  1. I used to make scenario for CM but I haven't in many years. Since CM2 came out.

Today I was browsing the repository and not finding a lot of scenarios, the idea popped into my head I'd make my own in the weekend and share it.

But the next thought that came into mind after was: 'oh no, I can't figure the AI stuff' and I remembered that was what stopped from making a scenario last time too, a few years back.

Just thought you'd like to know :-)

  2. I just read an article about the Cholm ASL scenario pack and that got me thinking about whether there is a 'cauldron' campaign for CMBN?

It would have to play out on the same map (a big one), several battles with the same German forces trapped inside.

I don't know if it is possible to do with the current campaign system in CMBN. I have no idea how it works, but maybe a talented scenario designer could creatively use the branch system that I have seen Fieldmarchal Blucher is using in his excellent Descent and Hoffnung campaigns, like if you own this victory location, the next battle will have the following victory locations and x forces and then copy paste those into a long series of branching scenarios that are essentially the same but with steadily diminishing German forces...

Does this make sense to anyone? :-)

  3. do you mean introducing the Shermans? well the Stugs had to go one way, I didnt see the infantry getting close enough for a bazooka kill.

I know, there was no easy solution to it in CM terms, nor in narrative terms, unless the author wanted to go for a stalemate which would have been realistic enough.

  4. Hi Patrick,

This was a very enjoyable 200 mins. Well done!

A little feedback (without spoilers): narratively speaking, I think it was a bit awkward (for lack of a better word) to introduce a completely new player in the next-to final sequence like that. It somewhat ruined the nice build-up of tension and character you managed throughout. I say somewhat because it is still an incredibly entertaining movie you made there. Thanks for sharing.

  5. When I was in the army I was trained specifically on the MG42 which we still used at the time (1980's) and as an NCO I subsequently trained recruits in it. In all modesty I was a pretty good shot with that weapon - I actually won the silver medal in the annual MG42 army shooting competition. What I can tell you is that we always shot in 3 round bursts. Always. As in always. The weapon became too imprecise firing more shots. That's not saying the recruits sometimes didn't fire more rounds, but that was because they didn't know better.

I easily hit individual moving mansized targets at 700 meters in terrain with the MG42 on bipod. I'm not saying all gunners were as good as me, but the MG42 is a pretty accurate weapon. And the tripod was even more accurate. It is my opinion that they're definitely not shooting enough bullets in CMBN. But their effect seem satisfying if you get my point...

What I'm saying is that they're not shooting a realistic amount of bullets, especially the tripod, I've never seen a tripod run out of ammo in CMBN, but perhaps they way BFC model the effect on the target is ok... hard to tell how many people should get killed. Try doing tests with elite gunners... see how they compare to regulars.

  6. And here it is, all about how Barkmann took out 17 Shermans - all in an afternoons work (or maybe it was 14).

For the silly majority who refuse to learn Danish, here's a link to a translation:

There are some pretty weird stuff going on in that translation, but you'll get the gist :-)

  7. Hi all

Great game, guys! Realistic and lots of nice eye candy. Once you have mastered the camera controls , I think the game really shines.

One question: how do you save a single player mission in the mission generator? It says you have to enter a 'mission directory' but my own usermade missions don't turn up inside TOW2 as battles...

  8. Hi all

TOW2 looks very promising! I have played a little bit, but I have trouble with the display settings. Obviously my complete ignorance of russian doesn't help :-)

The problem is that I'm unable to increase the quality of the settings from the default 1024*768 software rendered resolution. I have tried all combos of button pushing to no avail. It simply reverts the software mode, 1024 resolution.

Any ideas? I'm running Vista + Geforce 8800.
