  1. i don't know if this is the best place to post this, but i wonder,

Will it be too much trouble to make another version of the new patch, not including all previous versions? My guess is that old brz files are not changed anyway.

Updates are getting bigger and bigger and it is rather frustrating to download and install again everything, if all i really need is few MB of changes.

    Regards,

  2. As far as rivers go, I think it should be rather easy to model them, because you don't need to model it perfectly. Rivers always were serious obstacles and it wasn't an easy task to cross them. It was always a matter of initiative, finding a suitable spot and having something to cross them with, which isn't something any unit has with them during a battle.

In my opinion game engine should only focus around fords and things like that. Deeper water is just uncrossable. Engine gets flooded, soldiers are not too keen on swimming with equipment on, etc.

As for crossing rivers in floating devices-it would be more difficult, but it shouldn't be a pontoon simulation for crying out loud. When crossing river you try to do it as quickly as possible, in shortest way possible. Not swim in circles and catch some tan on the other side. Adding a strength of water current to the vector should be enough.

Someone wrote that "high velocity small arms rounds disintegrate very quickly on hitting water". True, but that simply means a target is harder to hit. I don't think CM Engine calculates effects of hitting separate body parts anyway.

  3. I don't think simulating rivers is that difficult. Just look at Rome:TW (haven't seen Medieval, but I suppose it's similiar). Soldiers don't need to swim, just slow down in shallow water, being unable to crouch, or get prone. Use pontoons in deeper water etc.

Anyway, I would love to see CM getting back to WWII.

I'm hoping for a MOD of some kind, since the tools are out.

  4. Hi all,

I've recently purchased the Paradox disc version od CMSF, and updated it to 1.02.

Apart from LOS going through walls (but i believe it was pointed out) i've noticed muzzle flashes sometimes appearing not where soldier's weapon is (for example: soldier is standing and muzzle flash is where his weapon should be when lying), or soldier figures (enemy) appearing in strange position (standing, arms stretched-like he was crucified)mostly in replay mode. But maybe i'm getting those because of my not so new PC equipment (Athlon1700,GeForce3Ti200,768Ram). Is it?

But what i found most frustrating was that infantry is unable of unarmed combat. One of my squads, out of ammo, assaulted enemy occupied building. Enemy was out of ammo too (i think so) due to long firefight, so they've met inside, noticed each other, and stood there doing nothing for few minutes, almost breathing in enemy's necks.

I understand that unarmed combat isn't too popular these days, but hey...

Also, i think it would be nice to get the opportunity to pick up ammo (if not enemy weapons) from fallen comrades. If all soldiers are individually modelled and even the weight of their equipment is calculated(as the manual states)it should't be too much of a problem. In previous CM games, soldiers never ran out of ammo completely, because of this being taken into account. It seemed to be forgotten here.
