I just downloaded the Demo but I get the same stupid message about my display not being set 1024x768

I've never seen these problems with Dropteam. Which distro are you running?Originally posted by Redwolf:Well, Dropteam Linux just segfaults on me when the sound device is busy.
-
I find it really disappointing to see the current state of (war)games. I bought Armed Assault which was (and is) no where close towards being finished.
Now I see these awful reviews for CMSF and reading the comments these are correct. This short term thinking is hurting the developers and the Combat Mission franchise. I wonder why battlefront has allowed these all these crappy titles to be published in the first place.

Time to vote for CM in the and place some testreviews and bugreports .Originally posted by Klavan:I also get stuck with the 32bit thing and I have an ATI card (a pretty old 9600 one).

Does your xorgs screen section look something like this?Originally posted by Mies:Mmm, ok now that there is actually something to play I off course installed the game with the latest stable free wine version (0.9.41) on my Ubuntu 7.04 machine. Game installed fine, I could register it ok, but when starting it, it complained about my screen not being the default 1024x768 32bit. That is correct as I have a widescreen at 1440x900. I changed the "display size.txt" file to cover that, but the game complained again.
I guess my question is, anyone try this and if so got it to work?

Don't feed the troll.Originally posted by Bunyip:The Dropteam guys seem to have no problem supporting then all.
Guess it's just a matter of the devs picking/knowing cross-platform toolchains and libraries.
I'm sick of being treated like a second-class customer just because I have a sense of quality.
Oh well, I'll just have to keep pirating MS's ****e, they sure aren't worth the cash.
-
Please file a bugreport in wine bugzilla and the results of your testing in the appdb. Otherwise the devs don't know there is a bug to squashThat braindead video test that CM does at the beginning is just some magic that the Wine people don't bother with -
Thanks!Originally posted by poesel71:The bots have a '*' at the end of their names.

:)Ok np, btw, how can I determine who is human and who is A.I.?Originally posted by Chilibird:I'm off to my graduation tonight, so I won't be there
Priorities... I know, I know

So, where is everybody?Originally posted by Toby Haynes:There are usually between five and eight players around at 2000GMT, sometimes as many as ten.
Friday nights (around midnight GMT) are also popular - I've had a number of good games with four to six players at that time.
-
Sorry to be such a nuisance but is this real single player experience? Or more something you get to supplement the multiplayer features? Such as the single player modes in Battlefield 2, Joint Operations, Star Wars Battlefront etc.Originally posted by Phonan:There's a campaign, though it's not really even close to as fun as multiplayer. It does exist, and you can create new ones, as well. There's a lot of modding going on too.
-
Thanks for the additional info. I wonder though if dropteam has a full fledged offline campaign (with a storyline, interconnected missions etc.) or is the offline mode the same as an online game but then with bots? (just like in the demo level)
-
Ok that sounds interesting , how many people are there on Sunday? How many servers?Originally posted by poesel71:We usually meet on Sunday, 2000 GMT although numbers there have been dwindling lately.
AFAIK DT will go on retail so I hope for more new players soon.
IMHO most of the target group did not like the SF setting. Whenever the WWII mod comes it will bring them in.
Its such a fun game especially in multi-player it would be a shame if it fails.

Ouch, that means there is no chance to play it online? What about the single player mode? I is thisOriginally posted by Chilibird:Unfortunatly, DT never got a huge following, A La BF1942/BF2/MOH/COD, so there is only those 3 servers around. I thought there was a demo version server too?
multiplayer with bots? Just like in the demo?
-
Thanks for explaining! Will this also be the case for the latest CM?Originally posted by gibsonm:No, all the previous CMx1 games came out in a Mac OS9 format (not the Unix based OS X format).
-
Here you can find information if a game runs or what it takes to get it running: http://appdb.winehq.org/
What I really don't understand is that all Combat Missions are also released for MacOSX. That is the same platform as Linux. That means it would only take a small effort to make it run in Linux right?
-
No one has an idea?
-
I was shocked to find out that the three empty servers were not only intended for the demo version. How many servers are there for dropteam? How many players on average can one expect at any given time?

Hey thank you very much! The 1st person 'hack' works perfect Tomorrow I'll try deleting these wav files.Originally posted by Phonan:Well, it turns out I was completely wrong about macros- these are just for chat. However, you can "lock" yourself in first-person view. When you chat, the game automatically "holds" the keys you've been holding for you so that you can type. So hold "e" or whatever key you've assigned to first-person view, then hit "enter" and let go of your first-person key. The view will look rather strange, but then hit enter or escape and you will remain in first person- without holding any keys. Unfortunately, this only works until you either hit "e" again, hit "tab," are killed, or go to the tacmap. You must then repeat the process, summarized by "e, enter, release e, enter again."
...
. I hope this works out for you, and perhaps they'll work a first-person mode into the game. Good luck.
-
That sounds like a good workaround . How should I proceed?Originally posted by Phonan:Could one not create a macro that, on the push of a button, "held down" e for you? If you wanted to get rid of annoying breathing altogether, find the sound file and delete it. Otherwise, I'm unfortunately not too experienced in this, sorry.
-
No problem! Just give me the source .Originally posted by Kineas:Well, if someone paid that little coding personally to BFC (plus the compensation for the changes in their business plan) then we (or he) can have a Linux version. Everything negotiable.
-
Great to hear its uses OpenGL and no DirectX! Well if a MacOSX port planned it shouldn't be too much of an effort to run it in Linux?
-
Or is there maybe a workaround of some kind? I really like this game!
Any chance for a Linux version?

These arguments sounds like, FUD to me. In short:
ID provides Linux games e.g.
Doom I, II, III
Quake I, II, III, IV
Return to castle Wolfenstein
Enemy Territory
Enemy Territory: Quake Wars
Atari provides Linux games e.g.
Unreal Tournament, Unreal Tournament 2003, Unreal Tournament 2004
Neverwinter Nights
Other Recent Linux Games:
Penumbra
Tribal Trouble
etc etc.
Most of them use a (bash) script to install these games which can be easily installed on every distribution. In short it can be done if developers use OpenGL instead of Microsoft DirectX.
