Where the hell can I play online with CMSF?
None of my friends play CMSF.

I can't seem to load cmmods.com.
It gives me a page load error.
Whateevr happned to cmmods? Do they shut down? And hence we are obliged to come to the late coming repository? Which is by far empty when compared to cmmods.

Could you please report back on what improvement you eventually see with this upgrade?
Like you, I have been very disapponited with my current 8600GT, and have been considering a Combat Mission friendly upgrade for a little while, so I'm intrigued what your experience is.

I haven't bought the new GPU card.
After seeing numerous threads on poor performance I concluded that buying another GPU card would not be an effective solution to solve CMSF performance issue.
Perhaps I'll get a new card later to play Empire Total War, the game which is on my must to buy list. But it's not going to be released until the first quarter of 2009. Until then I use my 8600GT.

Wasn't thinking so much about trying to hit the same spot with two seperately fired RPGs; rather that two shots = double the chance of one of them getting lucky and slipping through the active defense, hitting something important etc. AIUI, current active defense systems are far from perfect, and many also have limited charges and/or a refractory period after an intercept. So one way to defeat an active defense system is just launch as much crap as possible at the tank, as quickly as possible.
Yes of course I know RPG-30 tries to overwhelm the system by introducing the false target. The question is whether the precursor is equipped with warhead(explosive).
Imo it's better to launch a more advanced precursor with shrapnel like warhead or many small metal objects(or any other radar detectable object) bursting into the system envelope (before coming into range of the system envelope) with a high speed to act as multiple precursors. Similar to the concept of chaffs.
But how sensitive is the active protection system is as good as anyone's guess. The less sensitive the bigger the single precursor that is needed.

No way.
No-name PSUs don't even deliver half the power that a high-quality PSU with the same wattage rating brings.
And you cannot mix two different cards.
Why in the world do you want SLI in these low speeds anyway? A single GX280 is obviously better.
Okay I'll try searching for GX280. Obviously I choose to get 9800GT or 9800GTX for their cost consideration. And as far as I know it's as least as fast as the 8800GT/GTX

Would be most interested to know what actually happened to the crews, in terms of reactions, when Blazer equipped IDF tanks and Kontakt equipped Russian tanks were hit in Lebanon and Grozhny.

Well actually the ERA would explode outwardly. They have been designed to direct their explosion outwardly.
But there are rumors that ERA could become a self defeating defensive measure when an AP round penetrates the ERA and tank armor causing additional burst of fire(explosion) to be added to the tank's interior. Ouch.

If the precursor round has a warhead it would still be too small to do any real damage to a tank aside from detonating one or two ERA panels at most.
Plus the precursor won't in most probability be hitting the target tank at the exact point hence making a warhead equipped precursor round to be of dubious value.
Does anybody know whether the precursor round contains a warhead? But I guess it's a war weapon the more the bang the merrier it becomes.

I don't think the precursor head has any warhead. It just acts as a false target opening the way to the real RPG head.
The RPG warhead itself is of dual head. The first one is to destroy the ERA panels and the second one to do the actual job of defeating the tank's armor. If there were no ERA panels the first could give a little boost to the penetration capability I guess.
Whether this weapon can deliver what it claims is another thing to be proven in the field of future battle. Active protection system seems to have matured enough. I'm sure the developer of active protection system have already taken precaution against weapons like RPG-30. But who actually knows for sure?

meh - each missile weighs in at more than 10kg - sort of man portable. And a 600m range sucks - though you don't then have to spend money on superduper optics. Twice as much to go wrong and a ballistic trajectory to boot.
How cheap, exactly?
The range is 200m not 600m. It's short because it's unguided. It's cheap because it's not sophisticated.
The 60cm penetration of RHA(mind you RHA not just ordinary homogeneous armor/steel) is actually amazing. This penetration capability is claimed to be after the first head destroy the ERA.
This is one dangerous weapon. Tanks equipped with active protection system should not get close to these weapon.
What would be extraordinary and highly dangerous is when the Russians produce a guided anti tank missile which is fail proof against active protection system.
And from what I know active protection system actually also works against another tank's armor piercing round. Amazing isn't it. But how effective I don't know. So there is a high probability that a new tank round may be produced to counter this active protection system.
The day we know there is such a round we know active protection system is effective and is here to stay.

We need a counter against a "counter counter-weapon weapon".
That would be a "counter counter-counterweapon-weapon weapon" (CCCWWW) ...or better C3W3
weapon -> 'conventional' rpg
counter -> APS
counter-counterweapon-weapon -> RPG 30
But if we actually start to count with the tank, it would be even a C4W4.

Now that is confusing . . .
If somebody brings a C4W4 in a presentation and started by saying,
"Good morning ladies and gentlemen. I present you the first true 'counter counter counter counter weapon weapon weapon weapon' ".
Everybody would be puzzled I bet. Can you imagine someone actually saying those words?

Oh it seems I'm one of the luckier one. CMSF is not that fast on my system and sometimes it bogged down to 10s fps but overall it's still playable as long as I don't load a crazy scenario maps made by people who play CMSF with the NSA mainframe.
I've heard rumors and personally suspected that the fault may lie in the GPU itself. Current releases of NVidia cards starting with the 8500GT, 8600GT, 8800GT and so on may not have been designed to run OpenGL based game at an efficient level. My suspicion arised from the fact that I could play IL-2 Forgotten battle game on Open GL with my old 7600GT card and had fantastic flying fps at max setting while with my 8600GT I had a very very poor performance when the game was set to run on OpenGL. What I mean by very poor is unplayable. 10-12s fps which sometimes bogged down to slideshow. That's how powerful a 8600Gt is on an old openGL based game which the older 7600GT tackles very gracefully
Another possible reason is that apparently some game developers are extreme leftist in terms of their political disposition so they decided to make their software to have equal performance independent of the hardware configuration. LOL.
I hope this poor performance issue will eventually gets resolved.

I'm bewildered too. I'm thinking to buy anohter new GPU and make use of 2 GPU SLI configuration but this post made me realize it would probably be of dubious value to enhance CMSF performance.

I have an enlight power supply rated at 640W.
I'm planning to add 1 more graphics card as I'm not happy with the performance of my current 8600GT(What a waste of money). So I'm planning to by either 9800GT or 9800GTX.
The problem is I'm not quite sure whether my power supply can handle both GPU:
My planned SLI configuration is either
9800GT & 8600GT
or 9800GTX & 8600GT
Available power supply 640W.
should I dump the 8600GT? Or can I safely use it in dual GPU configuration with my current available power supply?
And buying a new power supply is a not an option I'd like to take for cost consideration.

I got it working it seems that I need to put only the file I want to use not all of them at the same time. great Job.
However I have one thing to ask. I used to see blacks in the uniform but now they seem to have gone. Using the AntiNVUrban uniform. Could you bring blacks back? To minimize the impression that my soldiers are clones LOL.
Thanks for the mod it's great! I like it. Coupled with camouflaged weapons the effect to immersion is astonishing.

I already put all the brz file in the z folder....are their usage scenario dependent?

I understand your dilemna. I routinely have to hide new purchases from the wife but I fear she is wise to my ways.
Understanding that you might be somewhat technically challenged, I would say go with the "Honey I needed a new computer for work that doesn't have Vista. So on my way home I stopped by the local used computer store and picked this one up. Isn't she beautiful..."

Great and if she gets mad you can say honey actually this guy on battlefront with the nick Falconander that told me to get a used computer to play CM1 series.
CM1 doesn't need a powerful computer to run on. Buying a used computer or a brand new much less powerful computer hence less expensive is a great suggestion. If I were you I wouldn't even buy Vista in the first place.
I know how you must have felt. I like CM1 series very much too.

Seabee I thought the blue perspective mod is only applicable for playing the blue side. I play both sides often so will this hurt the sound effects from the red side?

The stock weapon sound effects don't suit me. I'm looking for a sound mod for small arms, medium and heavy weapons.
Right now the effects sound like kids playing toy gun.....imo of course.
