    Difficulty: Elite

    CMSF Options:

    Display: 1024x768

    Vert Synch: Off

    3D Model: Fastest

    3D Texture: Fastest

    Anti-Alias: On

    High Priority: Off

    ATI Left-click: Off

    ATI RadeonX 1650 Pro

    16-bit color

    60 Hz (LCD)

    FRAPS = 6

When Allah's Fist is loaded as the Blue Player, you are positioned looking down the long dimension of the map. I'm curious what frame rates others are experiencing at this position with these settings. My framerate seems quite low and my mouse has quite a bit of lag - usable but annoying. The framerate does increase as I rotate and face the map edges that are closer (less map is visible on screen).

    You can get FRAPS here:

    http://www.fraps.com/download.php

    With 1.03:

    - same settings as you: 40

    - textures and 3D model maxed out: 8

    With 1.04:

    - same settings as you: 60

    - textures and 3D model maxed out: 37

Well, yes, huge improvement with 1.04, particularly with high settings !!!

    My rig:

    - Athlon64X2 3800

    - 2GB RAM

    - NVIDIA 7800 GT

LOL I got one step further now: dismount infantry early to keep strickers safe, then reach ennemy contact with a lot of exhansted troops :(

Then, casualties are a bit high :D

After that, and RPGs are cleared, the strickers can patrol and support infantry with the MG and 40mm.

I plan to converge to the same as above without exhausted troops one day ;)

They might be looking or a few more specifics about your issue.

Nope, was in 1.02. So far, seems to have gone after playing one scenario in 1.03 (Abu Susah).

It seems in fact disembark works differently now, since (in WEGO), the squads would disembark *before* launching the game run, probably killing the bug.

More on that when more play is done :D

  4. Hi all,

I'm experiencing something bizarre I haven't read anything on, here.

Basically (this is in the village cleanup mission of the training campaign) what happens is:

    - I ordered each squad to disembark from their Stryker and move to their position

    - I got each Stryker to pause 30s and move to support the moving troops

What I got severall times is noone moves, Strykers and squads stay safely idle. This problem disappears when I suppress the pause/move orders of the strykers ...

    Anyone has got that ?

    PS: this is in WEGO/elite

There's far too much under the hood of a good one to pick up on without extensive play and a good read of the manual (which I simply can't be arsed to do with a demo .pdf). How do you do a sensible demo for something like War in the Pacific? The best route IMHO is check the game forums after a week or so; filter out the haters and fanboys and you get a pretty good picture. [/QB]

I was of that opinion some time back, check forums , and remove the 5% of both extremes to get the picture.

Unfortunately, while it can work (as it seems to do here and elsewhere), I've seen it fail for me, and also have a counter example showing it fail totally: http://forums.gaspowered.com/

Basically, for a lot of reasons (some due to the mods), the forums is tits up to the point I would have never bought Supreme Commander after being in that scary place where even some mod recently (probably drunk in a bad day) hit the "new topic" button to bash a member (and a good contributor) !! However, the game is brilliant.

  6. Just throwing my 2 cents worth, here.

I don't believe reviewers have the same weight in specialised games like the CM series, than with the average Mario Bros.

As some have said, a lot of today's reviewers just judge the eye candy aspect and don't go too far.

Probably due to the console market influence, by the way: find it, play it, win, throw it.

On top of that, I believe the average mature customer will first look for a demo (which is a rare thing nowadays) before going to reviewers.

I personnally do that (don't give a damn about reviews if I got the demo !) and believe some of the recent DRM disasters has taught people, the hard way :D After all, those bloody reviews never speak about the very ability for you to run the game !

  7. After playing the demo, reading the manual (not in that order :D ), I feel like giving some feedback, based a lot on CM1X play. BTW, I'm playing in WEGO.

First, I'd like to say I love it, that is a great game, which doesn't compromise the roots it's been built on, and is a lot of fun. So few sequels like that, on the market ...

    Pros in my opinion:

    - good editor (so few games with that, nowadays)

    - superb graphics and sounds (environmental)

    - individual spotting. Wow, absolutely great !

    - camera is really really nicely done. Anyone having a problem with it should look at hotkeys and all and recheck.

    - performance of game. Great. Running on an AMD64X2 3800, 2GB of RAM and a NVidia 7800GT, without any problem. But that's winXP, not bloody Vista

    - UI: Still as good as CM1X, needs a bit of practise, but hotkeys are still here.

    - realism: well, that is Combat Mission !

    Cons (possible enhancements)

    - someone mentioned the LOS gone ? I'm not sure I need it, but I surely miss it ! Maybe the ground details makes it not needed at all ...

    - the unit tables are gone also, along with the kills stats. Bad. This function, in a patch would be priority 1 for me. How else could I assess which tactical group was the most effective AA ?

    - TacAI could certainly be better. I fried 10 T72 at veteran level. Seems none realised where the shot were coming from, and persisted to jump straight into the ambush ... Also, some epic shooting in the ground, from time to time (I suppose it's a known bug).

    - Wego in multi-player. I've read it's gone. That's annoying. Have to try RT maybe.

OK, straight to purchasing the game ;)

Don't worry. BFC are pretty good about stuff like this. They are planning to use eLicense, which is a reasonable registration product. </font>
  9. Also, on top of system requirements, a kind

I for one have only a DVD writer on my PC,

and it's already a fact it's a nogo with some

(absysally stupid) DRM "system" like Securom.

I've seen some absolute disasters due to DRM in

the gaming industry (check all of that http://www.ataricommunity.com/forums/showthread.php?t=542650)

and I'm now moving to the mode where DRM is the

number 1 question to ask before buying, before

    system reqts ...
