You can always go on "working on some more improvements and additions". You can also stop at a certain stage, release as is and leave the rest for a (god forbid, it seems) third patch.

I am thinking BFC has no interest in releasing any more patches though. The third one will be the pay-for add-on, I am sure. That's why they keep postponing this second patch. They want to make this the final one, so they won't have to support this version of the game any longer.

It will be several weeks now, without anything. Then there might very well be some problem with these new "improvements and additions", creating yet more delays.

I would be more than happy to pay for a patch today. The way things are now though, I think I'll stop bothering entirely.

  2. I too pre-ordered this game and had to leave it after a short while. The Moscow-patch brought some life into it, but didn't change most of the old problems.

I have been checking these threads out daily for the last month, hoping for a release. Still nothing.

Now Jmayer tells us it's done and ready to go. I really hope you upload the patch before you close up for Christmas. It's due.

    Regards

    Erik

  3. Thank you Sneaksie!

I'm sorry to hear that the correct animations for semi-auto rifles are seen as low priority. The way it is now, they have the same rate of fire as the bolt-action rifles, thus entirely removing their tactical advantage. I would argue that is a serious bug in a game of this character.

In the game, the Garand is the main rifle for the US forces and the SVT seems very overrepresented in the Soviet units also, so even though there are only two such rifles, they make up a rather big part of the game. I'm hoping this will be fixed.

I'll repost a suggestion that you missed. I think it's a rather good idea that might not be very hard to implement:

Another thing. As the campaign progresses, the roster of available units become bigger and bigger. After a while it is quite hard to pick the guys you want in your "starting units", because of the vast number of units and vehicles to chose from.

Could an option to permanently remove units from the roster be implemented?

Again, thank you for keeping us informed about the progress.

  4. Very interesting read! Good to know this game will be developed further.

I would like to add my vote for a retreat option, it is really annoying having one side fight to the death every time.

Has the bolt-action animation for semi-automatic rifles (Garand and SVT) been mentioned? Will it be fixed?

Thank you and keep up the good work!

  5. Yes, it seems as if the download is a go at Paradox. I went through the ordering right up to the credit card/paypal confirmation. During the process there was no mention of the game not being instantly available, the way it always is. It is after all the 27th, I could probably walk into town (Stockholm) and get the game in stores as we speak.

BFC, you are losing the release race here....

Surely I cannot be the only one who finds these priorities a bit strange.

It's about official moral standards in certain countries. Swearing and nakedness is outrageous, devastating for young people especially. Killing however, is not...

    Sad.

  7. Lee:

Do you have any idea who those men are or who they represent? Is it their sandals that gives them away as Al Qaeda?

Iraq is such a mess of groups fighting each other and/or the occupying forces, using all sorts of methods, despicable as well as military ones. Are you sure you know who's who? I don't even think the good soldier holding that Colt knows.

Wouldn't you fight against a foreign invading army that has turned your country into an even bigger mess than it was before they invaded it? I think I would.

Terrorists? For all I know, those guys might just as well be patriots fighting an invading army.

Good to see the 1911 is still in use though! smile.gif

any chance to see this in a patch?

It would make a huge difference in form of realism and should not be time consuming to implement.

For the mean time I would be happy with a end mission cheat.

    Bump.
  10. I think I won that mission on the second attempt (at hardest).

How did I do it? Let me think....

The light Bofors guns need to be rather close to the trenches, quite close to where they start. Put them behind bushes, the more the better.

The bigger guns I put behind bushes too, but somewhere on the ridge. Make sure all infantry are on 'crouch'.

I instruct all units, infantry too, to hold fire for as long as possible. When the first enemy tank fires its first round, I pause and go through the units, removing hold fire. I then try to concentrate fire, two guns on each target. When a target is knocked out or its main gun is out of action, move on to a new one.

The AT-rifles are also useful, especially at close range.

The reinforcements are key. The tanks and armoured cars I moved past the village, engaging the tanks coming from my right. The AT-gun I placed somewhere close to the village, providing flanking fire for the upper left trench, where enemy tanks seem to rush and where I placed an infantry squad.

You need some luck and timing when replacing gun-crews. It's definitely doable. Crews from knocked out tanks make great AT-gunners, by the way.

Pause a lot, micro-manage a lot, especially targeting - this is supposed to be a slooow game. smile.gif Good luck!

Edit: Oh, and getting drunk won't help. tongue.gif

  11. I agree. This was brought up immediatly after the release, I still haven't seen any developer or BFC-rep saying anything about it.

Being able to retreat individual units off the map and/or ending the battle whitout having to replay it, would do a lot to improve the immersion of a campaign. Those were and are key-features of the CC-games. I can't imagine them being impossible to have in TOW. I too, hate having to replay missions.
