Reading through this thread I was completely shocked it wasn't locked up. Moderators stacked a couple points up with me on that.
BTW...still waiting for an SC3 with hexes Hubert.
-
I think this is called "backpeddling" :cool:jon_j_rambo -Okay Blashy, why don't we play a game?Blashy -Not yet, still doing some testing.
-
John have you forgotten what forum your on? At this webpage you tow the party line or get shouted down and your thread locked. Why start thread...let me think...to make a better game?Son, if you want a management role, you must accept the negative & deal with it in mature manner.
What's the matter with you man, I thought you knew the the rules here!?

I hate the tiles. I mean I REALLY hate the tiles. Maybe I don't really hate the tiles but I DEFINATELY REALLY hate the tile/isometric view combination.I was on the fence about the tiles at first. I have played AH board games since late 70's, always hexes. This was an an excellent decision. It made the game more offensive.Konig if you have been playing wargames from the 70's you know there are countless other options to put in a game to make it more "offensive" than using tiles.
Also, I don't understand saying "I can't beleive it's only 45$" Some other people here have made similiar comments. What does that mean? You want to pay more? If thats what that means I don't understand the logic there.
-
Yeah but A.I.'s always are bad. Read this thread...In general I can sum up my remarks saying : the AI is HORRIBLE. Absolutely horrible. This game is simply not worth playing against the computer, sorry to be so harsh, but it's true.http://www.battlefront.com/cgi-bin/bbs/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=34;t=001003;p=1
-
Uhhh.... no I'm not talking about windows. I'm talking about all the problems people are having with getting this game to run properly.
-
My God... is this thing worth 45$??!!
It appears it takes quite a long time to send the turns. We had one retrieval error so farsome turns are sent very fast, some quite slow.
Retrieval error again ... wtf
Managed to send the turn after all - it is taking a lot of time though
FYI, the game generates an error log file and a saved game file when the game crashes.
Game is very slow - some turns take ages to be sent.
a lot of errors pop up.
it froze again. TCPIP looks like it ahas some kind of problems at the end of the turn.
Got a retrieval error in the middle of my turn ... bah, a little help needed...what are we doing wrong here?

That would be good. One of the best game systems I've played. The subject matter would make it hugely marketable too.U.S. Civil War should be next. Model it after Victory game's box hex version of the 80's. -
A game of the Arab-Israeli wars would be cool. Don't know what kinda interest in it there would be though. My guess is a modern day SC, set in the middle east. -
You are correct Blashy. The Fantomas top down view looks much, much better for me and I'm betting others as well. I was just wishing to comment that design features such as these are not trivial matters as someone else said they were.
-
I consider myself a diehard wargamer. I don't think topdown/isometric view, hex/grid game design features to be small, trivial, nits. A game has to allow the acquisition and processing of information as easily as possible. Otherwise the interface becomes an irritant and gets in the way of the gameplay. The more complex the game the more critical this is. From my years of game playing a topdown view is the best view I've come across in this "Wargame, turnbased, strategic" genre. And for any diehard wargamer, that's a really small nit to pick at. -
This demo thing reminds me of some of the TV talk show host here in Argentina.
When they are the most watched program in the country they are ALWAYS on the TV saying "We are the most watched program on TV!! Yeah!!" Dah. Dah. Dah.
Yet when they have low ratings they ALWAYS say "We don't really care about ratings so much, every once in a while we might look at them." Dah Dah Dah, right?
And here, when a group such as the "wargamer" gives a good review of SC2, some people say "YEAH!! Look at this, we are great!"
Yet on the flip side when someone says "I didn't like the Demo" for whatever reason. The same people say "Well it is just a demo and..." Dah. Dah. Dah. Understand what I mean?
It's kinda humorous!
-
Hmmm... Something tells me somehow this is a "loaded" question.
-
Hmmm....I don't get it.
No, a demo is not an entire game but it is a representative of a game. Right? Otherwise what would be the point?
-
I do like the "feel" of the game too. I like it when a PC WW2 game encorporates pieces of common equiptment of the times into the interface. Like radio boxes and panels and such. The sounds and music is better than in SC1 too.
-
The problems you guys are having is because your video cards.
-
@GrognardFortyPlus
I must say I found your post..."captivating"
However I can think of several games quickly that had painful interfaces yet the gameplay made it worthwhile. PTO2 comes to mind quickly as a classic example.
Some of the buttons in SC2 where small for this old person but I wouldn't describe the interface as painful.
-
@fantomas
Those screen shots look pretty good there. I think your on to something. You'll have to post your mod somewhere.
-
Well to start with, make sure you take a look at the minimum requirements before you buy. My system in our living room just met them, but the music stuttered and jerked and the screen came out like this...
Why this game has such high specs, (32Mb Video card, 1 GHz Processor, 256Mb of RAM) is beyond me!! You would think this game was a first person shooter!!
But anyway... took it back to the bedroom to 2nd PC (has much stronger video card) and the game and music worked fine. Thats the good thing. Bad thing is everything I was concerned about with before was only reinforced by actually playing the game.
The isometric grid based board blows. Hard.
The game seems too lightweight, not enough substance. Really been nice to see some retreat and breakthrough, additional armor movement, phase, whatever you want to call it. This type of stuff, little more meat and lot less get old quick candy.
Maybe in two years if its less than half the price it is now I'll buy it. But for now I didn't see anything worth shelling out 45 U.S. green ones plus shipping for.

Ha! Ha! good one.I think Hubert does all the work, while the others just padlock -
Is this thread/question a joke or something?
-
Is it just me or does anyone else here think some of the moderators get arroused everytime they lock a thread on this forum.

I'll be damned. I knew this was a english word. You were being facetious!"facetious"
I've been telling my wife for 3 years this is an english word and could never figure out the spelling to show her in a dictionary, and here it is.
facetious \fuh-SEE-shuhs\, adjective:
1. Given to jesting; playfully jocular.
2. Amusing; intended to be humorous; not serious.

Oh lord. Here we go again. Mr Defensive grabs sword and shield and beats the garrison to quarters at the first sign of trouble. Here's one template for future dislikes:____________________________________
You know, I don't really care for

And here's an idea how it might be improved.

uummmm....ahem. Isn't that what I did?
But my understanding is all these graphics are editable. My suggestion would be to use the standard Infantry and add an airborne symbol to the base. You know, the two wings with the parachute in between them. Put that down there somewhere near their legs on the base.
Done with SC2 already
in Strategic Command 2 Blitzkrieg and Weapons and Warfare
